A crt TV photo of Dragon Strike for NES's title screen with a blue and green dragon engaged in melee combat

Look this way for hot dragon on dragon action šŸ‘€

Alas, only of an overhead shooter variety in this NES version. A departure from the first person flight sim and dragon jousting of the computer versions.

A scan of Next Generattion magazine's cover with a reptilian creature armed with various spiky looking weapons and, admittedly, looking impressively detailed for early 1997.

(Yes, this is an actual PC game screenshot)

It's totally UNREAL.

It's amazing to see how late the M2 was being primed as the new hot system - just a few months away from being cancelled and despite being a no-show at E3 the previous year.

Yeah! The whole soundtrack is such an interesting mix of styles and vibes from them.

A dungeon-eye view of the Waterdeep sewers, which echo with dungeonfunk.

For the Mega CD version of Eye of the Beholder, Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima once again combined forces to rock your adventuring party's world.

Oooh, I'm excited for both! Nailing the inspiration from the Sega CD EOB soundtrack. It's one of the most amazing dungeon synth tracks I've ever heard.

A scan of a flyer ad for Space Fantasy Zone, with illustrations of Opa-Opa, the mascot anime gal, and various cartoonish enemies on the cover. There's a glossy, cel-like quality to the colouring

Opa-Opa's Greatest Battle is About to Begin!

The cover for a 1995 flyer for the second attempt to release Space Fantasy Zone for PC Engine CD. The winged hero and the cute 'Weponalds' mascot stand front and centre, ready for a new dimension of Fantasy Zone action!

Yeah, from what I've heard in interviews with movie licence games devs over the years, scripts in various states of completion were primarily what that had to work with.

A low-key ad in comparison to some Final Fantasy commercials, but one that gives us a wonderful glimpse of the game in development, Square's dev offices, and the computers they used to make Final Fantasy II for Famicom.

A snap of the original PD 1994 title screen, displaying a pretty snazzy pixel artwork of a greenish scifi ship overlaying a red planet, with credits. Coded in AMOS Professional. A snap of tjhe much smaller and squarer UI with a tinier and simpler view of the screen nd the sci-fi environment.

The original is still impressive in its own way, and back then, I'd have lapped it up if I'd got hold of one of the Assassins PD group disks with it on.

I was desperately for anything and everything that even remotely felt like DOOM on the Amiga.

A snap of the gameplay against an enemy in the centre of the screen, someone in blue and grey plasticy combat fatigues and a gas mask, as I struggle to find a weapon and explore the station A pretty snazzy render of a white shuttle/small fighter with tripod landing gear and an orange canopy on an orangey desert world Another 3D-ey piece of artwork that has the feel of a 3D render even tho its 2D pixel artwork, of a large, grey and blue sci-fi space craft the shuttle flies into toward the orange desertey world from space

Oh, I should specify PD as in Public Domain, shareware etc.

Rebirth takes the original version and greatly expands on its core gameplay and presentation with a much more expansive viewport and 64 colour graphics. It'll just about run on expanded A500s, but a 2MB A600 onwards is recommended.

A gameplay snap showing the first-person grungy sci-fi corridors perspective, all greys and rusty browns with an industrial vibe.

Black Dawn: Rebirth is a remaster of one of a whole mess of gothic horror and sci-fi PD dungeon crawlers released on the Amiga from 1994 onward as its commercial life continued wrapping up.

A screenie of a green-screen sci-fi monitor and a multi-panelled UI bar running along the bottom with energy/status bars and hand icons.

"Crewman Jones thank you for the report however could you specify on what exactly you mean by an unholy scream." is glowing green on the screen.

Apocalypse logs, an orbital station gone silent, and moody sci-fi dungeon crawling. Did Crewman Jones elaborate on what the source of the unholy scream was? Only time will tell…
