My Oma fled here on one of the last boats out of Germany with her little sister. My great-grandparents contacted a relative in NYC to look after them until they could find a way to follow. Their desperation and bravery are the only reasons I exist. Knowing that makes this even harder to stomach.

I really wish we could just sit and have a coffee to talk this out. Character limits make nuanced debate impossible. Suffice to say, I'm not defending ICE's existence. I agree it needs to be blown up scorched earth style. But that's not where we are yet.

I really don't want to get into a flame war over semantics here. I only said what I said because I believe this is a time when we need unity and focus. Tearing apart our own coalition is energy that should be spent on tearing apart the authoritarian regime that's actually committing the crimes.

Man... I was really young, but one of my earliest memories was coming home and seeing the news about the disaster on the tv. As a space kid, it hit hard.
