“It’s time to quit trying”

The Mick lost his might,
A legend dimming in the night

The Yankees left him to fate’s demand,
The Pilots reached out their hand

Saying no to another name,
Stepping away from fame

On 3/1/69, the curtain fell—
Farewell to #7 whom fans loved well

An Ode to Pinstripes, Born on 2/27/1912

Pinstripes born in Gotham's glow,
A legend stitched in lines just so

From Highland roots to Yankee pride,
They wore their story, side by side

From Ruth to Jeter, bold and true,
Each stripe held dreams the Bronx once knew

An Ode to the 1981 Players Strike

2/26/81 — the MLBPA drew the line,
Reopened the CBA — “It’s bargaining time.”

6/12 — the diamond fell still,
713 games lost to ill will.

8/9 — play returned, but scars remained.
A summer split. A game reclaimed.

AN ODE TO THE ‘73 LOCKOUT - 53 YEARS AGO

Spring was stalled by labor’s fight,
Owners locked out MLBPA members with delight.

On 2/25 the frost gave way,
A three-year pact saved Opening Day.

The lockout lead to common ground,
Baseball’s peace at last was found.

Dog Fight

On 2/24/10 a suit was filed in court,
When Sluggerrr launched a hotdog as sport

At a Royals game it flew in the air —
Too much “mustard” on the toss, unfair!

“That dog had bite!” the fan declared —
Now relish meets rule, judicially paired.
