What’s gratuitous about Pynchon isn’t his writing it’s the military industrial technological industrial colonial project

A friend of mine who worked in a Berlin sex club told me that it’s clear that he did his research for GR

Never forget that academia is what resulted from monks being tasked with cataloging the spoils of the Crusades and preparing for the Reconquista and then the conquest and establishment of the plantation system and then it’s optimization

Sure GR is a bit much but he was young and wasn’t wrong.

The rest- M&D, AtD, IV, BE - all absolutely on point.

One of the few novelic universes were the violence isn’t gratuitous it’s designed to specifically prevent the turning away from the violence of oppressive systems. Where the subjunctive rules and the oppressed are given their time.

Remember you can actually read Pynchon novels rather than watch watered down ironic versions of them.

I met Ryan Coogler at TED in 2016(?) (and I said "you got something right in Black Panther" and he was all "excuse me?" and I said "I map and ancient sites from space+ there are dozens of unmapped ancient civilizations beneath African rainforests. So core premise of BP was 100% right.... cont

Don’t you notice the Tone shift after the mini year gap? I think it’s fascinating to see an author deconstructor her own work

Her deconstruction of death, her deconstruction of women’s magic in men’s magic her deconstruction of the wall her revising of dragons her revising of earth magic her revising of the afterlife deconstruction of Ged

It’s just the 1st trilogy versus the rest of the books. She’s written at length I think it’s still on her website as maintained by her son on how she revisited the first three books as a feminist and was like wait a minute I got this kind of reversed the rest of the books do a good job of undoing it

I really love how Ursula K Le Guin turned her understanding of the dark around when she revisited her previously misogynistic beginning of earthsea with her revisioned look at the dark

We’re no longer trying to fight wars that end wars, we’re no longer proud of certain wars, we’re no longer embarrassed about wars that we messed up on. I think once war got big enough we deserved went through all the stages of grief and now we’re at some sort of weird acceptance

I think part of it is that Vietnam syndrome is completely over and they don’t have to pretend that it’s some special thing that they aren’t doing

360 degrees as well. Which is 12x30

360 in different bases:
Base 12 (duodecimal):
360_{10} = 260_{12}
Base 60 (sexagesimal):
360_{10} = 6,0_{60}

then using the Babylonian base-60 expansion of π (3;8,29…) places “Pi Day” at about the 4th month, morning of the 5th day.

I’ve also pointed out that we actually divide time into a 1260 form. Where we use 12 months of the year divided into roughly 30 days but those 30 days are two sets of 12 hours so really it’s 60 units. Each of those hours is divided into 60 minutes which is divided into 60 seconds.

I’ve always felt like pi day should be on July 2 because it’s halfway around the circle of the year.

Of course yes Jerry Rubin is a good example of somebody who literally went from one lifestyle to the other and did it publicly. That doesn’t condemn an entire generation
