Fennell should have just made a movie that was inspired by Wuthering Heights. Not claimed that she was adapting the book. Because it’s icky to whitewash racism, abuse, and generational trauma, which are key to the story, the way she seems to have done. That’s actually offensive imo.

I just learned that Isabella is portrayed as some sort of BDSM sub who’s chained up and barks like a dog. So now, I’m even more pissed off. That’s beyond taking liberties with the story. That’s romanticizing abuse. The story is about how and why Heathcliff becomes abusive. Not how he becomes a dom.

Yes it’s Valentine’s Day. But it’s also the chosen birthday of Frederick Douglass who was born in 1818 on a plantation in Talbot County, Maryland. He escaped from slavery & rose to become the most eloquent and forceful voice for the abolition of slavery & for Black voting rights in the U.S.

Has anyone suggested that Emerald Fennell re-read Wuthering Heights as an adult?

And by the way, that doesn’t mean that you have to convey things exactly as they are on the page to be a faithful adaptation. Clueless is one of the best versions of Emma. And the TV version of Interview with a Vampire is also awesome and it made huge changes, but still gets the book right.

There have been so many great adaptations of Jane Eyre that try different things, but are still true to the source material. I just want to see the same for Wuthering Heights. I just want one version that is true to the spirit of the book and gets it right.

Yes, I’ve seen it. And no, that’s not a complete adaptation either. I want to see both volumes of the book. Most adaptations just do the first half. Because that’s really all you can fit into a movie. The TV adaptations have done a better job because they show more of the story.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t exist. I’m saying, it’s not really an adaptation of Wuthering Heights. It’s something else. And she should have just made it an original story instead. Also, I’m still waiting for an actual, faithful adaptation of the book. Because you’re wrong, we haven’t had that yet.

And oh yeah, Rochester is no longer keeping his wife in the attic because that’s too ick. Let’s just make him a widower instead. You can do all of that if you want to. But you’re no longer adapting Jane Eyre. It’s become something else. And people who love the book will point that out.

Sure you can. But at a certain point, it stops being an adaptation and becomes something else. It’s like she decided to do Jane Eyre, but couldn’t relate to the idea that Jane is plain. So she cast a stunning actress and had the other characters constantly comment on how hot Jane is.

Yall remember when white leftists called Kamala Harris a “cop”. Yea the “cop” explicitly ran on ending private prisons as president. Moral of the story? Stop letting privileged ass anarchists inform your votes. kamalaharris.medium.com/kamalas-plan...

I think I've woken up to them outside the house twice now? I'm okay with it - time wasted trying to scare me is time spent not kidnapping a vulnerable neighbor.

Anyway if you go out at fuckass o'clock with your phone in one hand and a whistle ready in the other, they see you and leave lol.

My ultimate “Don’t think about it too hard” issue with a celebrity version of The Traitors is that surely a top of mind consideration when you’re traitor-hunting has to be “Who would the producers cast as a traitor?” but for obvious reasons you’re not really gonna hear that on air

Are we really meant to believe that everybody on The Traitors was this unaware that Tara and Johnny are pals?

I really enjoy this show but I definitely enjoy it more the less hard I think about it

Every single time one of you "dO SoMethInGs" says "Harris shouldn't run in 28 b/c the US is racist and she won't win"...YOU are upholding white supremacy.

Yes, YOU.

That was his voice? I wondered what that music was. (I only saw a clip of the performance on YT.) And I was thinking that he jinxed himself by picking it. Wow, what a nutty choice. 😬

Is Jacob Elordi really what Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights should look like? | Dave Schilling Bad boy Heathcliff is described as ethnically ambiguous and ‘dark’ in the novel, yet is played by a pretty straightforward white Australian Elordi

4) And it sounds like Fennell made major changes to the character of Nelly. 5) Plus, there’s apparently a lot of sex. Those are all major changes from the book. And at certain point, it doesn’t make sense to call it Wuthering Heights anymore. She should have just made an original story instead.

14.02.2026 06:28 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

1) Heathcliff is not a white man. So Elordi is seriously miscast. And so is Margot Robbie for that matter. 2) And then making Edgar Linton a brown man instead completely messes with the issue of race that’s a core part of the book. 3) Removing the character of Hindley makes no sense.

14.02.2026 06:28 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Also, there are not a million faithful adaptations of Wuthering Heights. We haven’t even had one true adaptation of the novel. Which is part of the issue for me as someone who loves the book and wants to see a legit adaptation.
