I really, really hope you win.
I really, really do.
Showing support from small town Maine...
Grateful for the opportunity to review Mieko Kawakami's latest U.S. release, Sisters in Yellow (translated by Lauren Taylor and Hitomi Yoshio) for Summer Brennan's Book Supplement portion of her Writer's Notebook. Check it out if you're of the mind...

This book was an unexpected gift from my old head of school at Foxcroft Academy, as he was interested in what I thought about it.
I'm a fan. Not many characters here, but I will say that I definitely recommend Thomas D Lee's "Perilous Times". A whole lot of fun, and a moving ending.
A new billionaire is just more evidence of the disgusting system we live in and is nothing to be celebrated. The only thing this should inspire in anyone, including the person who became a billionaire, is nausea and a desire to hurriedly be stripped of billionaire status.
The Neutral Dead Milkmen Hotel
(did I do it wrong?)
Interesting... Cohen's song, "I'm Your Man," is featured prominently in Maggie Gyllenhaal's big breakout role in "Secretary".
I mean, I doubt that's why she bought the tribute CD, it's just where my mind went.
Iβm extremely concerned by reports the Trump administration destroyed a facility during a covert action in Venezuela.
If this was done without Gang of Eight oversight, itβs a serious violation of federal law and a dangerous escalation that pushes us closer to war: www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcn...
I loved the video. You had so many more hot sauces to get through than a guest would on Hot Ones... so, take that Sean Evans! You are completely badass!
(And you'll be good for your district, and the country, when you win!)
Issa Rae has canceled her sold out performance at the Kennedy Center. Pulitzer Prize winner Rhiannon Giddens, Peter Wolf, Low Cut Connie, and the Gay Menβs Chorus of Washington, D.C., have also canceled. Lin-Manuel Miranda has canceled the entire Kennedy Center run of Hamilton.
I heard the song, "Feliz Navidad" today, a Christmas song I like a great deal. I became sad and angry, though, when I realized that according to a recent SCOTUS ruling, singing this song would be a sufficient reason for ICE to detain someone.
Feliz Navidad, indeed.
(and Fuck Ice)
Good things are possible and we donβt have to settle.
If youβre wondering what the future of the Democratic Party looks like, watch the young, brown democratic socialist on the TV right now.
Amazed and happy that Maine rejected voter ID referendum, and also voted to strengthen red flag laws.
And, even though I'm a Mainer, Mamdani's win in New York gave me hope for the first time in a while that people really can have the power.
And he quoted Debs in his victory speech!

UP is great, in my opinion, even though it was their first after Bill Berry left, and I did miss his drumming (and I think the album does demonstrate just how important his drumming was to the band).

It's not complicated: Not one more taxpayer dollar for genocide.
I like Graham Platner, who is running for the Democratic nom to go against Susan Collins. I firmly believe he can unseat her, so long as the DNC doesn't try to sabotage him in the primary. He has real momentum, and just appeared with Bernie at the rally in Portland.

What we think serial killers look like vs what they actually look like:
I admire Wilson's making it very readable (and finally using words like "slaves" instead of maids and servants). I do love Fitzgerald's poetry (I love his "Aeneid"). I was a real Latin and Greek geek in high school. I was offered a scholarship to study it at BU, but decided to pursue theater.
What translation are you reading? I'm a nerd about this stuff. I love Fitzgerald more than Fagles. Emily Wilson's 2017 translation is really good, too, in my opinion.
I had a great time reading Lisa Foiles' debut, "Ash Ridley and the Phoenix". Kids and parents will dig it.
As a child, she was on Nickelodeon's "All That" and a cool episode of "Malcolm in the Middle". She has a fun podcast, too.
I was impressed with her storytelling here.

I hope she and Maria ignored the guys and just cut up together with some of them Spanish dances.
I remember seeing that in the cinema, and I definitely cried at the end. Probably a lot.
It's funny you should say that! This wasn't in public, but five years back, I did Mr. Jones as a spoken word monologue for a girl I was dating to make her laugh. Lines like "I want to be a lion" are fun. But I added some lines from the girl they were staring at, who didn't appreciate being ogled.
Perhaps the most important book you can read right now. It's not easy, but I agree with every word. And Omar El Akkad is a beautiful writer--- this makes me want to read his novels.
Please read this book.
Always nice to read a book you expected to enjoy, and then find early on that you REALLY like it, and by the end, it is a new favorite. Peter S. Beagle's "The Last Unicorn" is told with wit, imagination, and love. It explores what it means to be mortal and what it means to be human. Pure magic.
I don't know if you remember this, but I thought of you when I heard "'Round Here" the other day, and a time when we came up with more absurd lyrics like, "She has trouble acting normal when she's on quaaaaaluuuudes" and things like that, in an exaggerated Adam Duritz voice. Hope you're well!
