31, she/her. It's getting hard to even try to be But God knows I'm trying, I'm fighting and crying And racing forward, toward a day that's shining So that it'll never change, it'll keep on this way Until I'm out of things to convey

If you don't do so, you should indeed be considered to basically Newsom but with better politics, frankly.

... you are going to be criticized for not taking that risk, most certainly if you keep the same rhetoric and never explain why you aren't doing so. If you want to be seen as a Resistance Hero, you should mean the things you say.

My perspective is that Pritzker can't have his cake and eat it too. If he didn't want to be seen as being someone who would stop violence and unlawful arrests, he shouldn't have framed his rhetoric that way. I'm not saying that there isn't a huge risk, but if you're going to talk the way he did...

Same bestie. I get hip pain and it's like "Ok it could just be soreness or something but I'M ONLY 32 IS IT POSSIBLE..."

A bunch of the people who pull the smol bean routine would shit on Jon Stewart in the prime Daily Show days falling back on β€œI’m just a li’l ol’ comedian” when people would invoke his responsibility. It’s the same fucking thing.

I feel like what this means is that we have to develop a personal idea of what is good and right, and keep ourselves honest about it, because this place will validate whatever path we choose to walk, and the social incentives are mostly to walk really bad ones.

12.10.2025 22:13 β€” πŸ‘ 51    πŸ” 5    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

The way that people with influence who are supposedly at least sympathetic are more and more just completely abdicating any belief in social responsibility and basically shrugging their shoulders at the idea that they might have to make sacrifices is disgusting.

Honestly I also think the nature of the "people have shitty opinions" argument is just a motte-and-bailey to begin with
1. JKR isn't just somebody who posts shitty takes on twitter.
2. Even if we can't Solve Bigotry, the correct answer is to not associate with them, not work on associated projects!

Places like this are a validation machine, where if you want to be a shithead, it can make you popular, and then you can curate your views so that you see like 90% people saying everything that you do is good and right no matter what it is.

Don't disagree with that. I'd just argue that in a way that's tied to social responsibility, at least when talking big accounts, because when we say "Big accounts especially should not be traumaposting on main because of all the people that will read them" to me that's a social good point.

One of my personal heroes is Bryan Stevenson, an absolutely amazing lawyer and person whom I've always wanted to be like.

Stevenson wrote in his brilliant book Just Mercy that "Each of us is more than the worst thing we’ve ever done."

From him I learned that who we are is a process, a journey, and not a snapshot. The direction we're traveling says so much more about us than where on the road we are.

Also the way things got Chinese Whispered from "Please don't spread panic on social media to thousands or tens of thousands of followers" to "Ah so big accounts aren't allowed to have opinions or emotions" is exhausting.

Honestly, it's weird because people talk about the responsibility of having a large platform and broadcasting opinions all the time (The Natalie Wynn discourse had a heavy focus on this, for one example!) There can be a genuine issue of not seeing big accounts as people, but this is just not that.

Sit me down with him. Let me tell him it the Unitarian Universalist Church and universal reconciliation. All he has to do is affirm the inherent dignity and worth of all individuals to follow their own spiritual path.

I will respect no further discussion, but I would note that if you want people to obey a request to not argue a point further, you shouldn't include arguments in that post. It reads less like an interest of ending a convo and more like getting the last word.

My condolences for your loss, however.

(If you look at the criteria you will notice that this is all basically in the context of Trump's consolidation and domestic fascist policy)

Okay, which of Trump's domestic-oriented actions was this in response to?

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

β€” Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
β€” Against raising the minimum wage
β€” Buys foreign imports because they're cheap

personally if i was the ceo of a credit card company getting harassed by a bunch of the dorkiest christian losers youve ever seen over someone somewhere buying fiction with sex in it, i would institute a policy that employees get to laugh in their faces for as long as they want

We aren't talking about "For the country" though? We're talking in specific response to Trump's actions. You're seeing this as some kind of grade on them as an overall representative and that isn't what he's measuring.

Yeah entirely agree on that, not to mention at this point you just shouldn't make a politician your personal hero/parasocial bestie as a general rule (and yes, though I like him, that includes Mamdani)

I wouldn't be shocked but also I'm just not seeing a better candidate to replace Collins atm sadly.

Given how much we need Collins taken down and he's comparatively the best, I'll just cope that this is to try and get some of that "bipartisan" cred that continually seems to be the magic that helps Collins cling on or whatever.

I honestly do wish that the pundit class had had a more robust response to "People are dogpiling me and sometimes being outright abusive on social media" than "I'm going to become a reactionary now" because this was a discussion we should have had, and that completely invalidated it.
