The British Arachnological Society (BAS) is the UK’s only body devoted exclusively to the study of arachnids (spiders, harvestmen & pseudoscorpions): https://britishspiders.org.uk. To record GB spiders, please use https://irecord.org.uk/enter-srs-records.

Ero aphana (sternum checked) - female on the underside of the lid of our green bin when I put it out just now. Always a good place to check. Only my 2nd in & around the garden.

@cofnod.org.uk will undoubtedly have a few suggestions. My contribution is Kryptonesticus eremita. Currently only known in the UK from a disused mine entrance on Flat Holm island and a Penarth sewer chamber.

Sticking with spiders for this one. Here's a female Walnut Orbweaver (Nuctenea umbratica) I found a couple of nights back. They have a slightly flattened abdomen allowing them to hide in cracks and crevices during the day.

Yes, definitely a Pirata although I'd be bit cautious on species at this time of year, when they're immature.

Due to various circumstances I have not had any trips out looking for spiders so far this year! Fortunately I have been looking after some spiders that have kept my interest. Not had anything to personally post so decided to share some pictures of local spiders from previous years.

A spider I don't see nearly as often as I should - the delightful Green Meshweaver (Nigma walckenaeri). This one was found trapezing after dark, and even when she sat down I needed some comically acrobatic manouevres to get the shot (hence the suboptimal sharpness).

That's a kind comment - thank you!

26.02.2026 20:11 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0A little spider fest this morning on these building site fence panels. I think these are Pisaura mirabilis, Xysticus cristatus and maybe one of the Lycosidae? #arachnids @britishspiders.bsky.social
26.02.2026 16:22 — 👍 16 🔁 6 💬 1 📌 0Amazing how a little warmth brings out the sunbathers! Agree on the IDs although perhaps wouldn't go beyond genus for the Xysticus, especially at this time of year when it's still immature.
26.02.2026 16:32 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Mmm, the abdomen looks as if it could be an extremely pale Zygiella Missing-sector orberb spider but the carapace looks oddly uniform in colour for that. Another possibility could be a very pale Steatoda nobilis Noble False Widow - a bit like this one eurospiders.com/Steatoda_nobilis.htm

This Cyclosa conica spider (Trashline Orbweaver) was trying to blend in on a small tree. I've only ever seen this species once before, then found two on this one trip. The other stayed in its web for the second shot.
