I was the top fundraiser in #motionball Kelowna yesterday. But I didn’t expect to be named Captain of the year, and certainly didn’t plan to make 400 people cry as I spoke about our efforts, my sister Sarah, and how the campaign evolved when dad passed away last month. I ❤️ Sarah and my amazing team!

I just learned that the Squamish Rotary Club were so inspired by my posts and stories on LinkedIn that they UNANIMOUSLY voted to host a #motionball for #SpecialOlympics Marathon of Sports event in their community! I’m so excited for the athletes and leaders in Squamish!

Does anyone know when City of Kelowna will finish the pedestrian overpass on Highway 97 and Bertram? They made a big show of the grand opening on June 6. And yet not a single worker has returned to finish the outstanding work so that the stairs can be opened. What’s going on?

Starbright is a pillar of our community. When they were the Central Okanagan Child Development Association, and I was a child, I remember similar experiences when they supported the whole family while my sister received speech and physical therapy, and inspired me to volunteer in their computer lab.

This is the 4th year we have sent a team to @motionball.bsky.social Kelowna. We are a business of just 8 people. Yet, our team has inspired so many donations that we are currently the 11th highest fundraising team in CANADA this year! I’m so proud of the work my team is doing…

But I was still quiet and keeping these feelings to myself. Then I decided to form a team for #motionball and introduce my staff to the event, and it clicked—not only was I able to bring joy and inclusion to #SpecialOlympic athletes, the day inspired my staff to become #champions of #inclusion…

I learned to feel content with myself and began to find connection. Attending #motionball Marathon of Sport in 2018 made me see how much people like my sister also feel excluded, not because of trauma but because they are not included by society. It really was “a day of fun and inclusion!”…

I won’t share the details of my childhood trauma here. But, that trauma led to years of anxiety, depression and disconnectedness. I felt excluded because I literally felt disconnected from myself. And no matter how hard I worked and no matter how many accolades I received, it did not feel real…
