It is fun to have so many choices to play around with, but I usually end up defaulting to just a few favourites.
Looks good! How many different brushes did you try?
I missed the big frog crowds this year as I was away at the critical time. Next year I’m putting “Frisky Frog Time” in the diary to avoid any clashes!
Update: free-swimming tadpoles broke free of the first-laid spawn yesterday (two weeks after laying), with fresh spawn appearing overnight
So many questions.
The frogs' night-time pool party continues in the rain. You can see their eyes looking like pairs of headlights.
I think I missed the main frog event this year. But there are still up to 20 active in the pond overnight. This one didn’t mind posing for a photo in the sun today.
Anyways.
Chilly and grey here and I’ve barely seen any frogs!
We haven't had any sun all day, so it may as well be
A long weekend in t’north (North Yorkshire specifically).
I think it could be a good thing (if the right people are paying attention!)

Ba-doom tish! 🥁
A crop top, Kev? That’s quite daring, but you do you!
Finally, the bug is back with a round of the Guinness.
About 20 frogs in the garden pond this morning, and the first spawn of the year (last year, the first was around 4 March). Sad that I can’t be at home today to watch them. But here’s a photo from last year.
Don’t forget to contribute to PondNet Spawn Survey freshwaterhabitats.org.uk/advice-resou...
It is making me think I should draw some more digital birds!
Thanks for sharing @lowcarbonkev.bsky.social (I'd almost forgotten about that dunnock!) and I was really hoping you'd bought one of @haggytea.bsky.social's cormorants – a match made in heaven!
Feeling the love for Jeff Tweedy and the remarkable Twilight Override band at Islington Assembly Hall this evening ❤️❤️❤️
Made a little step forward on the linocut of a Barn Owl I'm working on. First block carved ✔️. I made the drawing for this print from a real life Barn Owl at a wildlife drawing session in Margate last year.
Looking forward to seeing more of this!
Thank you! Printmaking can be a lot of work and I often wonder why I’m doing something so time-consuming!
I’m trying to make a new #linocut print every month in 2026. (OK, it’s true that I’m on the first one and it’s already mid-February, but nevermind.) Here’s my progress this weekend. I’m using one piece of lino to print all the colours, one after the other. This is called the ‘reduction’ method.
Managed to fit in the final Winter Bird Survey visit to one of our squares this morning (since it wasn’t raining). More skylarks this time but still not a lot going on, to be honest. The path along the riverbank was very muddy - not my favourite…
🎉 You can’t see them here, but the first frogs of the year have entered the pond! Based on previous years, we probably won’t see any spawn until the first week of March. 🐸
And me too! Do they have much poetry on Radio 1 these days…?
Happy birthday to one of my favourite haters, Charles Darwin
Well done, Tinas past and present! 👏
