A focus on: ending female genital mutiliation 🎥 HRP expert Christina Pallitto discusses how WHO’s new guideline on female genital mutilation provides a blueprint for countries to address FGM and strengthen care for the 230 million women and girls affected globally. 🧩 The guideline outlines coordinated actions across health, education and legal systems, including community engagement, information on FGM prevention, and legal and policy frameworks that uphold key human rights principles and support access to quality care. 🩺 The video highlights how health workers, as trusted members of their communities, can use routine contacts, such as antenatal and other sexual and reproductive health services, to share information and contribute to FGM prevention, supported by dedicated training materials. 🌍 Marking the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation on 6 February, the video also presents WHO and UN partners’ zero-tolerance approach and the importance of ensuring that women and girls who have undergone FGM receive the care and support they need.
