A Perspectives journal article titled "What Canadians Can Learn from Progressives Across the Americas." A quote from the article reads "If Canada wants to build better relationships with these countries, like Mexico, Canadians need to understand how they have built their social and economic infrastructure for the fulfillment of human rights. These countries are especially wary of Canada when its economic interests heap human rights abuses and environmental damage on Indigenous lands, and exploit migrant workers from these Global South nations." Written by Clement Nocos, dated Aug. 15, 2025.

Across the Americas, progressives are on the frontline of defending democracy across borders.

Read Clement Nocos's dispatch from the 2025 Panamerican Congress, where the Global South showed us how to build a vision for a good society.

A purple graphic features the text "The world reacts to Mark Carney’s declaration at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland that, 'the old order is not coming back' in spite of neoliberalism being largely responsible for its decline. At the 2016 Progress Summit, Ed Broadbent was prescient in stating," above a 2016 quote from Ed Broadbent that reads "If a blind faith in unfettered markets continues to prevail, I believe the social foundation for our democracies will continue to be shaken." A geometric leaf appears in the top right corner.

Mark Carney declared that, “the old order is not coming back” despite neoliberalism being largely responsible for its decline.

It’s up to progressives to re-envision how we defend democracy in Canada and abroad.

Hot dog guy we're all trying to find the guy who did this meme.

All of you are taking hot dog guy at his word in reacting to the Carney WEF speech. Neoliberalism is the erratic driving of the weinermobile and Trump is the crash and this moment at the lectern is the quote.

Guys, Carney is just saying the same things that Lula and Gustavo Petro and everyone in Latin America and the Global South have been saying forever. Relax about this being an "admission" when its been reality for a while—he's still going to be a neoliberal and flash Keynesian in crisis, don't worry.

Editorial — From the Ashes? | Special Issue - Winter 2026 | Perspectives Journal The politics of the centre are no match for the challenges that face humanity. We do, it seems, face a choice between socialism or barbarism.

The article appears in a special issue for the @broadbent.bsky.social Perspectives Journal on the future of social democracy and the #NDP.

To reverse the trend of the working class moving to the Conservatives, we show that the #NDP should aim to combat alienation and disaffection among working class voters with stronger economic populist appeals and an economic strategy that promises direct material gains for workers

"The point is really to have more democratic control over the digital infrastructure. Part of what helps our control over that is not to have one corporate entity with total market power."

Went to Mexico and felt kinda embarrassed that Canada couldn't go on stage and name one progressive thing we've done lately that isn't facing retrenchment or backsliding.

Mark Carney won on a promise of strong but fair Canada. This is how he is betraying that vision The Carney government is repeating the mistakes of Paul Martin and Stephen Harper.

I have a new piece out for the Toronto Star today on how the Carney Liberals ran on public investment and nation-building and have swung immediately to the right. Among other things, Canada may soon experience the most sweeping austerity program it's seen in decades. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

When he reached the Israeli prison, U.S. human rights defender Chris Smalls was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals. They choked him and kicked him in the legs, leaving visible signs of violence on his neck and back.
When his lawyer met with him, Chris was surrounded by six members of Israel’s special police unit. This level of force was not used against other abducted activists. The Freedom Flotilla Coalitions condemn this violence against Chris and demand accountability for the assault and discriminatory treatment he faced.
