#musicscience folks 🎵🧪, does anyone know of any papers where the perceived consonance/dissonance of harmonic intervals with the same width but different tonal implications is tested (e.g. major 3rd vs diminished 4th)?

I did miss my connection but I got rebooked for a new flight today and had a good night’s sleep in a hotel last night in Doha so not too bad overall

Boston Phil is on break until Feb, but I’m heading to a residency with the Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra where I’ll direct a program from the violin!

I am en route to an exciting 3-week residency in Indonesia with the Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra! But already hit my first snag — flight 1 of 3 is delayed and I may not make my subsequent connections 😔

Image of an email from a student asking if sources "from the late 1900s" are acceptable.

I will never recover from this student email.

John Lafferty taught me intro ML in 2019 and it has completely transformed the way I think about music, cognition and data in general

told myself I'd spend some time running some new models for a corpus analysis this morning, but my old ML professor just emailed me to say that he's been using the PCA on violin mocap data from my article in Music Perception as a pedagogical example for the past few years and now I'm 🥺🥺🥺

i find myself coming back to this article from 1958(!) surprisingly frequently for my diss and while the actual calculations are...unhinged, the ideas are right on #musicscience
