Minimalism in Winter
As I’m printing this image as full panorama for a client, I just remembered how I shot it out in the cold. Back in 2021 we had the perfect conditions for my favourite kind of photography: black and white minimalism here in my home region.
Happy International Mountain Day!
Today, I’m posting some of my favourite mountain images I took for my long-term project „Lights, Shadows, and Glaciers“.
Finding Minimalism in a busy Landscape:
After a very long road trip from Germany to Denmark, Swedish Lapland, Norway and back home and a busy Autumn season, I finally managed to post a new article on my blog.

Dancing leaves.
Leaves and the first snowflakes are dancing! What a beautiful hazy shade of winter we had. I love how those beams of light shine through the tree's canopies and create those patches of light on the surface of a little country road.

Enjoy the little things.
two years ago we had a sudden drop in temperature and the lakes in my home region got covered with very thin black ice. It pushed the last Autumn leaves up and out of the water and later hoar frost did its thing and created those little ice-tentacles.

Some Waterfall magic.
It’s been while since I photographed this waterfall and I’m curious already how it will look like in winter with some ice and snow. Somehow, even if it’s not the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, it’s still one of my favourite ones in the Alps.

Autumn’s magic.
Seeing larch trees in their full color just makes me smile! I love being out in the field during that time of the year. Even if this particular spot is often overrun by photographers, it’s always such an incredible view from up there.

Before Sunrise.
Sometimes, going up to the Matterhorn is like opening a box of chocolate - you never know what you’ll get. This time the Matterhorn surprised us with no clouds at all.

Lights and Shadows
A raw, almost unedited glimpse into the ever-changing play of light and weather here in Swedish Lapland. It’s hard to put into words just how vast and open this landscape truly feels.

Usually, I’m not too focused on woodland photography, but the forests in Scandinavia inspired me to experiment a little. I captured most of the trees with my 50mm f/1.2 lens wide open, while just one image was taken with the 20mm f/1.4.

Sunrise over Lofoten.
This morning in northern Norway surprised us with incredible light during sunrise and a lot of layers between the mountains far far away.

This is one of the most iconic views of the Lofoten during sunrise and sunset.
Sure, it’s shot so many times but it really is just a beautiful place.

…Soon, more photographers from Finland and Germany joined, and together we waited in the twilight. Then the sky came alive — green light dancing above Senja’s jagged peaks, mirrored in the tide pools below. A night of shared wonder with strangers, connected by the magic of the north.
There was some magic!
At Tungeneset I was ready to leave after sunset, when a woman from Finland told me the chances for aurora looked good…

Sunrise color overkill!
After I hiked up yesterday and rain crept in during sunset, I decided to hike up again this morning. So my morning started at 3AM with a 1.5h steep and slippery hike from sea level to this amazing view. The colors went nuts and felt like being in the middle of Alpenglow.
I’m not only collecting items for my „Maritime Studies“ project but I’m also getting lost with my macro lens in the beautiful shapes and colors of seaweed.
What the high tide left behind.
It’s very fascinating to me walking along the countless beaches here in Norway and see what you can find along the water line at low tide.

Daylight felt too harsh, so I waited for the warmth of sunset and the glow of golden hour. With the swamp and small lake nearby, I was hoping for a glimpse of wildlife… but instead, it was just me, the trees, and the silence.
Yesterday I stumbled upon this spot, and the colors just blew me away. The pale birch trunks rising through the soft pink undergrowth felt almost surreal - like stepping into a painting.

Thanks so much!
I explored this area for some hours in the hope that some clouds would creep into the scene like in the other image but they had other plans.
Minimalism in the north.
Here in Swedish Lapland you can find an almost infinite amount of interesting spots, where you can sit and observe how the weather and clouds are changing the scenery.

Lights and Shadows
A raw, almost unedited look at the shifting light and weather in Swedish Lapland. The landscape here is vast, open, and constantly in motion—every moment feels different from the last.

Out of place ice fishing huts.
This might be one of the more unusual posts from me but during my trip along the magical lakes in Swedish Lapland I fell in love with the different types of ice fishing huts.

Finding Minimalism in busy landscapes.
It caught me off guard finding so many of one of my favorite plants, Schachtelhalm or horsetail, in an unexpected location.
Sweet memories of summertime magic — funny moments, mysterious night sounds, and the kind of beauty you can’t plan for. Sometimes, when you’re out on location, the conditions aren’t what you hoped for. Clouds roll in, storms threaten, and you wonder if it’s worth staying.

These images are a quiet tribute not only to the breathtaking landscape, but also to the amazing people I met along the way.
Grateful for the moments I’ve been able to witness, the light I’ve been able to chase, and the stories I’ve been able to share.
🇨🇭 Happy Swiss National Day!
Today, the mountains are calling a little louder – and few places capture the spirit of Switzerland quite like the iconic Matterhorn.
