The statement expresses strong support for the substantive work being done by GGE, and qualified it as a strong and sufficient basis for the CCW to start negotiations of an instrument on LAWS.

Today, at the last day of the 2025 Session of the CCW GGE on Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems (LAWS), Brazil delivered a statement on behalf of 42 States, co-drafted with Ireland, Norway and Switzerland.

Amb. Meyer delivered a statement on behalf of the New Agenda Coalition (Brazil, Egypt, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand and South Africa) during the 3rd NPT PrepCom. While nuclear dangers are greatly elevated, history reminds us that progress has been possible even at moments of geopolitical tension.

As in previous visits, the students asked very informed questions and displayed a keen interest in the political and technological issues underpinning multilateral disarmament negotiations - some may be inspired to seek a career in the field.

Staff from the Implementation Support Unit of the Biological Weapons Convention gave a very engaging presentation about the Convention, which included a demonstration of a NBC protective suit!

The students met with representatives of the Geneva branch of the UN Office of Disarmament Affairs and with Brazilian staff members of @unidir.org.

During a yearly study visit to Geneva, a group of undergraduate international relations students of
@unisinos.bsky.social university had a series of lectures and presentations about many aspects of the UN disarmament machinery and Brazil's role in international discussions in the field.

The continuous erosion of world’s nuclear security architecture and the protracted stalemate in the nuclear disarmament regime make collaboration around NDV even more relevant. Convergences are most necessary in strife-ridden times.

For Brazil and Norway, a GSTE-NDV would provide unique practical benefits in support of the long-term goal of nuclear disarmament.

The joint BR-NO proposal is an example of a cross-regional initiative by States in different security contexts to seek creative, pragmatic multilateral avenues in order to foster cooperation and mutual understanding, underpinned by solid scientific and technical knowledge.

Yesterday UNODA conducted the first round of consultations on the possible convening of a group of scientific and technical experts on nuclear disarmament verification (GSTE-NDV), pursuant to the mandate given by UNGA resolution 79/240, submitted by Brazil and Norway.
