Last is the value of Martin Pospisil, who doesn’t get a point on most successful scoring plays, but often generates a loose puck that leads to #10 and #91 getting a bit of time to make a tic-tac play.

The fun in ‘04 wasn’t that the team was some overdue, big budget team loaded with stars.

They had a low-end offence and a great goaltender that held on for their lives until the final buzzer.

If fans just tore down the team all season that year, where would they be?

Most importantly, both teams are groups that have been written off by everyone else. Flames fans this year have one of the funnest roles of any hockey fanbase: a half-decent team with incredible goaltending.

You get to laugh at every surprise; every salty rival.

Their offence was underwhelming that season. 109 goals-for by Jan. 21 for 2.38 GF/GP. This year, they have 117 for 2.60 GF/GP.

The Flames were 23-16-4-3 (53 pts) by Jan. 21 that season for a .576 points percentage. The Flames of 2024-25 are 22-16-7 (51 pts).

Mikka Kiprusoff was already unreal by that point. An 11-3-2 record and a .941 save percentage. His and the team’s 1.41 GAA made games winnable.

Dustin Wolf, to his credit, is 16-7-2, .917, and has a 2.50 GAA.
