Recognize a trend? #Flames

Nov. 1 & 4, 2023: Zary & Pospisil score in their first games and steal spots in the lineup.

Nov. 5, 2024: Coronato forces his way into the top-six with two goals vs Montreal.

Nov. 5-9, 2025: Kuznetsov debuts. Plays his way into the top-four.

Have the Calgary Flames Reached a Tipping Point? The Calgary Flames won their second consecutive game for the first time this season on Wednesday. Do they continue to trend upwards? All signs point to "yes".

Sorry for the absence! Oh, and give me a follow! I dont have much traction on BlueSky.

Lots of cool stats as always. Today we look at when the Flames started getting their offence and defence into fighting shape amid a nightmare start to the season.

Do the Flames pull off two comebacks in a row with Mikael Backlund out there playing safe minutes every few shifts?πŸ€”

Last is the value of Martin Pospisil, who doesn’t get a point on most successful scoring plays, but often generates a loose puck that leads to #10 and #91 getting a bit of time to make a tic-tac play.

Second, he has Nazem Kadri as a wingman. The London, Ontario product is a shoot-first center who generally doesn’t shoot low for a rebound.

Huberdeau often will just bump it up to Kadri, who will try to make magic on his own against 2 or 3 defenders.

Huberdeau’s single secondary assist over 968:55 of 5v5 this season is more indicative of how him and Kadri approach scoring plays.

First, #10 is almost always going for high-risk targets. If he lands it, the recipient is better off shooting. (1/3)🧡

Through 968:55 of 5v5 time.

Huberdeau ain’t about picking up secondaries this season.

Daniel Brière and Craig Conroy quietly made this swap on the draft floor last summer.

To the Flyers:
4th round pick in 2024 (Heikki Ruohonen)

To the Flames:
5th round pick in 2024 (Luke Misa)
6th round pick in 2024 (Eric Jamieson)

#Flames thoughts after 40:

-2-24-4 when trailing after two periods. .071. This feels like "gg" on the season.

-Faizal Khamisa weighing in on the toughness of the Flames as a team: "Yeah, they're not anti-tough by any means,"

I passed out from cringe and burnt my DiGiorno.

The Flames were 2-2-3 in March and are 12-12-4 in the new year, both of which are a .500 point percentage.

If they continue to go .500 over the 17 remaining games, they'll finish with 88 points.

Since the theme of the day is ripping on Ryan Huska, here are some #Flames shootout stats going back to the start of 2022-23 prior to last night.

Andersson: 4/7 - 57%
Huberdeau: 4/11 - 36%
Sharangovich: 3/7 - 42%
Frost: 3/7 - 42%

Below is some other choices.

Lots of reaction to Connor Zary projecting to be on the fourth line for the 4th game in a row.

How many players have we seen pushing hard through something that they shouldn’t and it messes up their long-term trajectory?

It’s ok to take it slow.

#Flames thoughts after 20:

-Very strange period. Calgary is finding seams in transition play, but the classic breakout up the ice is stopped so easily by Dallas.

-Just seeing the Flames hit passing targets like they are is surreal. Is this offence finally heating up?

The fun in β€˜04 wasn’t that the team was some overdue, big budget team loaded with stars.

They had a low-end offence and a great goaltender that held on for their lives until the final buzzer.

If fans just tore down the team all season that year, where would they be?

21.01.2025 23:20 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Most importantly, both teams are groups that have been written off by everyone else. Flames fans this year have one of the funnest roles of any hockey fanbase: a half-decent team with incredible goaltending.

You get to laugh at every surprise; every salty rival.

Their offence was underwhelming that season. 109 goals-for by Jan. 21 for 2.38 GF/GP. This year, they have 117 for 2.60 GF/GP.

The Flames were 23-16-4-3 (53 pts) by Jan. 21 that season for a .576 points percentage. The Flames of 2024-25 are 22-16-7 (51 pts).

Mikka Kiprusoff was already unreal by that point. An 11-3-2 record and a .941 save percentage. His and the team’s 1.41 GAA made games winnable.

Dustin Wolf, to his credit, is 16-7-2, .917, and has a 2.50 GAA.
