First outing for my new outskirts-of-Calais game mat this evening.
Nice figures. I’ve no interest in Silver Bayonet but these might work for 1812 Sharp Practice characters. #SpreadTheLard
Glad you’re getting some mobility in.
I spent a couple of hours helping a mate run a birdwatching session at the local hospice. First time the fleece layer’s come out of my coat this year!
Graduating already? I thought she only started recently? I must be getting old!
I thought at first they were 1/300th and you were planning a major change of pace for this year’s Joy of Six!
My report having run a game at Hammerhead this weekend is up at The Land of Counterpane.

Great fun at Hammerhead today. Thanks to Colin, John, Andy, Alan, Samuel and Martin for playing Rinning from Bull Run and being such great sports!
The baseboard for my Harpers Ferry What a Cowboy game has been in storage for about two years and is looking distinctly knackered. Sadly I think we’re at the point where I break it apart and bin what can’t be reused.
Inspiration struck a few days ago. Dragon Rampant to game the lowlife attack on Finiah at the end of Julian May’s “The Many Coloured Land”!
High Elves as Tanu, medievals as gray torc soldiers, pretty much any figures as lowlives and firvulag. Only problem - sourcing 28mm chalicotheres.
He’s clearly asking for payment of the not-getting-used-as-a-pin-cushion charge.
I too make my own bacon but only when my local supermarket has suitable pieces of belly pork. Must do another search.
The latest addition to my Gangs of Rome collection is Zenobia from @badsquiddogames.bsky.social She’ll probably appear in my campaign as some kind of priestess.
Wonderful colour, Brown Violet, but as you say, very much a green!
I’ve just received as a birthday gift a boxed set of Vallejo Air paints. They include a “Middle Stone” that’s a completely different shade from the Standard “Middlestone”!
I wanted to add the rebellious Julius Civilis to my “The Iron Hand of Mars” scenario for Infamy Infamy. He’s dyed his hair red and vowed not to cut it until he’s freed Germany of Roman influence.
Victrix and Wargames Atlantic parts combined.
It’s in my calendar (as tbc).
Forgot to attach the pic!
Was anyone else disappointed by the selection of demo/participation games at Vapnartak yesterday? It remains a great chance to catch up with friends and do a bit of shopping but there seem to be fewer games each year.
Annual Vapnartak pre-birthday selfie with Annie @badsquiddogames.bsky.social yesterday. Great to catch up with you!
Actually, reading further into the background I now believe the squadrons had a mix of cruisers and light tanks.
Working on some 6mm scale 1940 German air recognition flags - depicted here before they get the internationally problematic central symbol. I figure I can use them to indicate which armoured cars have 20mm cannon rather than just MGs.
I’m running “Calais 1940 - The Road to St Omer” at Joy of 6 this summer. This evening I upgraded the paint job on the 6mm scale 3RTR I first painted about a quarter of a century ago.
I picked up a couple of 3D printed bison at Wirral Warboot back in the Summer. Useful for What a Cowboy or in Glorantha!
If you would like I could email the Steel Lard previous attendees and let them have your email address.
Fuckig autocorrect: “Iskander”.
This is Nick. Nick has just played his first ever Wargame, taking on the role of Islander Bey, the renegade Turkish officer who believes himself to be Alexander the Great reborn. After his performance in the game, I think he may be.
Andreivia 1918: Set up for a game of Arc of Fire tomorrow with two complete novices as far as wargaming is concerned.
Congratulations! I was in your position nearly thirty years ago but my sons were significantly premature and in special care for a couple of weeks. Looks like yours are doing well!
Okay, I can provisionally offer to run the game I ran at Steel Lard and Posh Lard this year if you need it. It’s called “Running from Bull Run” and is a Sharp Practice variant set in the ACW.
Where in the world are you?
