Spatial Mining had, until the late 2250s, been largely limited to orbital space and starbases, as a cheap form of static defence. T'Kuvma's War represented a shift in tactics, as both the Federation and Klingon Empire began to lay Interspatial Minefields along Trade Lanes and transit corridors.
This is why you don't wanna mess with Sam

I miss media literacy.
Starfleet is Schrodinger’s Military.
Ideally, SF is an exploratory service with secondary defense force and space law regulation duties.
In my WIP, I’m working out how a completely dedicated non-military exploration service works, where defense is a seperate branch.
The next time someone calls you a paid shill for saying you like modern Star Trek, show them this to remind them that the real paid shills are the haters.
Astroturfing at its finest. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire anti-SFA movement is just a couple of losers trying to make a quick buck off of their own manufactured rage.
Don't ever take this site or anything it publishes seriously. It is actively looking to hire people who hate Starfleet Academy to write about it.
As of 8 pm on 10.3.2026, this is live on LinkedIn.
Ask me again why I think the anti-SFA sentiment is manufactured.

Akagi would not see any more major actions for the remainder of her service. Despite this, her presence along the former Romulan Neutral Zone proved a powerful deterrence to several Romulan breakaway states, with her fighter squadrons allowing her to maintain long and wide patrols of the region.
Akagi would also participate in the later Battle of Mars, where she would fight alongside Admiral Tyr’des Deran's task force to completely annihilate the Synth presence over Mars. However, Admiral Deran's flagship, the Odyssey Class Kumari, would be crippled during the battle.
Arriving at the edge of the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, Akagi would use both her own firepower and the projection of her squadrons to create an evacuation corridor out of the shipyards. Once the shipyards had been evacuated, Akagi would join Odyssey in rescuing the incomplete Honorius from drydock.
Akagi had been conducting trials near Vulcan when she picked up distress calls from Mars indicating a Synth rebellion. With the evacuation underway, Akagi would immediately make all best speed to the Sol system to assist with the evacuation effort.
Akagi would be equipped with a complement of Valkyrie Class Fighters and Valor Class Multirole Fighters. Sucessors to the Peregrine Class, the Valkyrie and the Valor had proven their worth in the prior Titan crisis during their deployment aboard the USS Typhon.
As a result, Starfleet would order the 12th Odyssey Class ship, the USS Akagi, to be built to carrier standards. To accomplish this, Akagi was built without an Aquarius docking port, with an additional hangar in place to support additional small craft squadrons.
With the retirement and refitting of Starfleet’s Dominion War era carrier variants of the Akira and Galaxy Classes, Starfleet needed a new carrier platform to maintain operational experience and training. The reintroduction of super-capital ships was highlighted as a perfect opportunity for this.
USS Akagi
NCC-97011
The USS Akagi was a Starfleet attempt to trial carrier operations aboard super-capital starships. Launched mere months before the First Contact Day Massacre, the Akagi would play an influential role in both the events of the massacre and the years to come.
So happy how this turned out!! Obsessed with this guy our old friend Marauder Mo

As one of the fifteen or twenty genuine Liberal Internationalists in the US, all of whom are active on this site, I do think we really need to confront the fact that a genuine liberal-democratic "rules based" international order cannot be underpinned by arbitrary and hegemonic US military might.

"Preparing for war with the Klingon Empire represents a political capitulation, but a strategic gain. Let's hope one makes up for the other." - Nancy Hedford, 2267.
As 2267 begins, the worst becomes the likely: and the likely becomes the inevitable.
