You could say Partners in Times is the same, though I would argue it's more of a transitional moment. Regular characters do look more "normal", but they're still a little off from how they look in most Mario games nowadays.

Toads look more or less how they usually do now, but there's still plenty of unique Toads throughout. This is something even Dream Team doesn't do, as it mainly settled for the standard base of Toads and that has remained true for future installments.

We see Goombas, Shy Guys, Paratroopas, and Dry Koopas pushing the statue against Bowser. Note that their appearances look closer to how they do in 3D appearances, something that even Partners in Time doesn't commit to.

Nonetheless, characters like the Elite Trio have distinctive designs that modify existing enemy bases.

For Mario RPGs, Bowser's Inside Story represents a middle-ground for character design - regular enemies better resemble their 3D depictions in mainline Mario games and other spin-offs. But they still allow for modified designs for distinct characters. In a way, it's like a best of both worlds.

I think the unfortunate truth of Alphadream's bankruptcy is that even if Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story on 3DS sold well enough, I don't think that would save the company. I could be wrong, but isn't it weird that the survival of the company is dependent on remakes?

Absolutely loved The Mountain. After Cracker Island, I was worried Gorillaz were done with larger scope projects - but The Mountain is the most immersive, rich, and ambitious project they've done in a long time.
