The history of Nazis holding rallies in left-wing areas of Weimar Germany, instigating street fights, and then telling the press that only they could save Germany from the "violent communists" seems like an important thing for people to be studying right now.

I feel so stuck lately.
I have this passion for growth, and I've become so bogged down by my current position as well as the state of the world.

I need to make more art. Idk what yet.

An excited pyranees/border collie mix is running in a "superman" pose towards the camera outside. She is in full zoom mode. Growlies also activated. There's no stopping her now.

Learned the 1500th bat species was recently named πŸ¦‡

Discussed bat vs rodent diversity with partner β™₯️

He asked about capybara species...

Somehow that led to explaining the Devil's Corkscrew to him...

And now I'm looking up ancient weasels πŸ˜‚

Can anyone explain why the path of smoke is magically broken by the 3 cities here on the map??
Moses Lake and two towns west and northwest of it are somehow yellow dots even though the AQI is 200 points higher everywhere else along the smoke trails...

I'm confused as hell.

Original abstract (August 2024 preprint): Despite widespread consensus that climate change poses a serious threat to global public health, very few studies have isolated the specific contributions of human-caused climate change to changes in morbidity and mortality. Here, we systematically review over 3,600 abstracts, and identify a dozen end-to-end impact attribution studies on human health outcomes published between 2016 and 2023. Based on these studies, we find that estimates of attributable mortality range from 10 to over 271,000 deaths, depending on timescale, spatial extent, climate hazard, and cause of death. We calculate that this loss of life amounts to up to US$ trillions in monetary value when using standard valuation approaches. So far, end-to-end attribution studies capture only a small fraction of the presumed global burden of climate change, with few studies addressing infectious and non-communicable diseases, and no subnational or event-specific studies focused on a location outside of Europe and the United States. However, the field of health impact attribution is poised to explode in the next decade, putting unprecedented pressure on policymakers to take action for human health.

Published abstract (September 2025 publication in Nature Climate Change): Over the last decade, attribution science has shown that climate change is responsible for substantial death, disability and illness. However, health impact attribution studies have focused disproportionately on populations in high-income countries, and have mostly quantified the health outcomes of heat and extreme weather. A clearer picture of the global burden of climate change could encourage policymakers to treat the climate crisis like a public health emergency.

Third, the peer review process pushed us to de-emphasize all findings other than "literature to date is incomplete and biased," which undercuts the substantial and strong evidence we have that climate change is killing thousands of people each year. Here is our original versus final abstract:
