Have you ever pulled a student quietly aside and said, “Hey. What you did was really, really good”? You can watch someone’s life changing in real time.

These Brazilian Cheese Breads are giving “I may be small, but I run the whole snack table” energy.

Serve them warm. Tear them dramatically. Let the cheese pull do all the talking.

After posting a different Hood mockingbird image as today’s photo of the day, I found this shot, which I like even more. These mockingbirds are found only on Española Island (previously called Hood Island). They live in social groups where the lower-ranking members help raise the young of the dominant pair. That’s my hand in the photo, and I’m using my other hand to aim my camera from the side. Obviously, these birds have no fear of humans.

(Photographed last month in the Galapagos Islands.)

I'm very jealous of all the non-American authors who get to publish little novellas and tiny essay collections that top out 100 pages. We gotta bring that publishing culture to the states.

A crowd of writers holding colorful books over their faces at the Disquiet Program in Lisbon, Portugal. They are standing in front of a tall bronze statue whose face is also covered by a book, which marks the building behind them as Fernando Pessoa's birthplace.

Disquiet International is pleased to announce the winners of the 2026 Luso-American Fellowship Competition, along with the inaugural winner of the Katherine Vaz Fellowship! share.google/HNWYHGyKBx1S...

there was also a Stanford study that found that a surge in AI slop by lazy people actually created significantly more work for others who had to decipher and correct it

this "I'm being efficient" (but not really) vibes well with the American obsession with artifice and appearing productive

Authoritarianism has arrived in the US. So what does it look like, what do authoritarians do, and how does it compare to other authoritarian regimes that we know of, like Putin's Russia?

The US bombing of schoolchildren in Iran is the biggest single US massacre of civilians since My Lai. The Israeli bombing of Tehran’s oil storage constitutes the biggest single act of chemical warfare against a civilian population in history. Grotesque new depths of barbarism.

Behold NYC's First-Ever Trumpeter Swan A member of the once-near-extinct species has taken up residence in the East River. But why?

Brooklyn has been graced with the appearance of a swan so rare that experts say there have been no recorded sightings of the bird in New York City—until now.

There are a couple kestrels near my house and I love them so much, all that hunting fury in a gorgeous bird the size of a pop can. And that tail!

Listen to my cousin. Deadloch is on Amazon prime in the US. I would also add, in terms of giving you context, it’s kinda Parks and Recreation meets Broadchurch, with just a ton of messy queers. NB: season two is coming soon and they added to a Hemsworth & crocs 🙌🏻🇦🇺🔥🐊

To be left dead by attacks is the natural state of the Middle Easterner, while in the Western culture (also Israel somehow) being killed is a major taboo.

A picture of all-time badass Stagecoach Mary Fields, holding her rifle.

Happy International Women's Day!

Remember, when in doubt, do as Stagecoach Mary Fields did, and either headbutt, shoot it, set it on fire, or let your horses trample it.

"She broke more noses than any other person in central Montana."

Reliance on "A.i." makes people sloppier, shittier writers, which encourages sloppier, shittier reading, all of which makes people sloppier, shittier thinkers.

None of these "A.i." words matter, so no one gives a shit.

This is INCREDIBLY bad for people individually and for society as a whole.
