I was an unusal kid.

But Python and Hitchhiker's were big things in nerd circles when I was a kid, and if you dig a little deeper, you find The Goons pretty quickly. At least I did.

Ray Bradbury, Douglas Adams, The Goons, Ambush Bug, the original Charles Addams cartoons, Moonshadow, pretty much every DC Comics magic character. They're all in everything I make and I love the idea of introducing people to those things, too.

Honestly, one of the underrated joys of making comics is introducing other people to the things that made you the creator you are.

I am determined to use my new career as someone who makes oddball funny stuff for kids to introduce as many people as possible to what The Goon Show was and who @dirkmaggs.bsky.social is.

With great power comes great responsibility, and I intend to use this power wisely.

Also, congratulations everyone who made something this year. A comic, a song, a film, a novel, a painting, a poem, a short story, a sculpture, crochet, embroidery, whatever it is. In this era of slop and theft, if you *make* something you are a shining jewel and I am so grateful for you.

Every day there seems to be a new kick in the gut. I don't know how any of us are still standing and still creating things.

I'm glad we are, but man, sure would be nice if it wasn't this hard and getting harder.

I really hope not, but it feels like that to me, too.

Yeah, this smacks of C-Suite FOMO. Too many other people raking in billions. Well, for now, at least. Until the bubble bursts. And then they're chained to a sinking rock plummeting into the deepest trench in the ocean.
