maybe they did make an alternate for EarthBound that ultimately went unused, repurposing the original model seen in those ads?

The one in the US Player’s Guide is photoshopped from the MOTHER 2 final model. Ness got the same treatment.

Correction: this alternate Paula is different from the one featured in early ads. The body appears the same, but the head is completely different. Not just in hair color, but the shape of the hair as well as how the face is painted (blue pac-mans with eyelashes vs black ovals)

Just arrived. Continue Motion Graphic vol. 86 featuring photographs of some of the clay figures shown in the Shape of MOTHER exhibit. I’m surprised to see skinny Paula still exists, although she’s incorrectly labeled “EearthBound Paula” (that’s both spelling and factually wrong)
