One problem is definitely when you have precise goals and high expectations. This prevents you from learning thru other paths which can be beneficial to achieve your goals later.
This was my two-cents take ! 😁
I work on several project in parallel (progressing on tracks, sound synthesis, live production, learning how to dj - you're the expert here 😁) so I do not feel stuck.
Then, I produced randomly without goals, not matching any genres. So I decided to learn a bit of electronic music history and to refine my music genres knowledge. Now I have expectations and more precise goals so the process is longer.
It was more high motivation than patience. My learning was fast because I have technical background in signal analysis and sound perception. Tell me what a knob does and I almost know what's behind.
About self confidence, I had none. First track was listenable enough to keep me motivated.
Hey Jakob! Indeed I've spent amounts of time learning thru repeating the whole process up to posting on SC. You've discovered my music during this process. At the beginning it was 8 to 15 h/week while watching an online course. I've set objectives like ~1 track/week until I completed the course.
