I just don't understand the value of sending a breaking news alert about a 90 year old who died peacefully who hasn't been a public figure for 20 years.

I actually want breaking news alerts but I don't need a death watch on an actor who won an Oscar in the 1980s. (By my count, I haven't even heard of 25% of these people - certainly I'm not great at knowing everyone relevant, but...)

The vast majority were actors/musicians/athletes. Around 20% were politicians. The rest were authors/artists or people of note.

Generally speaking, all of these people should get an obituary as they are (or were) a big part of the culture.

In the last year, NYTimes has sent an average of 5.1 "breaking news" obituaries per month as either push notifications or emails.

By rough count, 80% of these people were retired or no longer in the public eye. Over 50% were over 80 years old.

This past off-season I came up with what I thought was a great homerun call to Castellanos: "...hit well and...somebody check on the Pope... that ball is gone!"

Too bad the Pope died in April

There needs to be a screen time limit that slowly makes an app worse and worse until you don't want to use it anymore.

It should have a cool down period so like 8 hours later or whatever Instagram would be a bit better, and 24 hours later it'd be like new

Cuomo’s bridge lights hit the auction block The state’s power authority spent more than $100 million for lights the former governor wanted on New York City’s bridges.

Free idea to @bradlander.bsky.social - buy these lights and bring them to campaign events as a reminder of how much Cuomo cost NY Taxpayers last time he was in office

Do you want to know why the US has led nearly every major technological change for 40 years?

It's because of STEM immigrants. They learn here. They stay here. They build here. They create jobs and world class companies here.

Newark Airport radar outage strikes again, delaying more flights Newark Airport is a mess.... again

Between staffing shortages and infrastructure deficiencies, it's clear that Philly should not have control of Newark Airspace.

Obviously will never happen for all the reasons you state.

It does seem like Spring Training baseball does bring tourists into the area who spend money. These people likely wouldn't come without baseball, substituting another vacation. Is this the one case of sports bringing economic development?

Jesus Christ. You can't say "It's contested." You can't say "Agree to disagree." You can't say "Let's move on." You have to say, "Mr. President, that is a lie." If it means he never talks to you again or yells at your boss, THAT'S FINE. What have you lost? More "opportunities" like this one?

Good morning. A reminder that historically when the US has wanted to punish other countries, it imposed sanctions on them, cutting their people off from global trade, hoping to create enough economic havoc that they rein in their leaders.

Trump has imposed economic sanctions on the American people.
