the USA built a system of higher education so good that smart/rich people from across the world came here, spending billions to learn here, subsidizing education for Americans while spending money to live in our cities and towns. our government arbitrarily decided we should stop doing that

Journalism should not be a for-profit endeavor and I will die on that hill. It is a public service and, as such, is the only industry specifically protected in the Bill of Rights. The very first amendment. It is essential to democracy & too important to be sold to VCs and traded on the stock market.

I cannot get over how no one in mainstream politics even disputes factual claims like this. Everyone admits that Israel is starving children and murdering desperate civilians. The only ‘debate’ is about what to call it and whether the motives of people protesting it are pure enough.

As the author of the law that empowers the U.S. government to sanction Chinese and other officials for cracking down on free speech in Hong Kong, I agree with Rubio.

Unfortunately, he has ZERO credibility after he locked up students in the U.S. for exercising free speech. (1/1)

Used in the journalistic sense, it always meant reporting by & for largely white audiences, created mostly by men. And it has always been heavily weighted on the side of wealth and systemic inequality. As much as that's conservative, objectivity was always conservative.
