Discussing back in the days with folks from BioWare, they explained the process of building the first zone as a testing ground for early game user testing, leading it to be overflowing with features and content compared to how it should really be in its place in the narrative flow.

It’s worth pushing through. It suffers from the same flaw many RPGs have where the very first act is sub-par. Dragon Age Inquisition and Witcher 2 and 3 had the same. Common flaw in the process.

Finished #Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. Took me forever to get past the prologue, but then I couldn’t put it down. A deep and well-balanced cRPG. Very well done @owlcatgames.bsky.social

MTM: Remakes & Remasters in 2025 R&R (new abbreviation for me!) sometimes showing better performance than originals, and generally less risky for developers & publishers.

In an age where publishers are staying as far as they can from any type of risk, remakes/remasters couldn’t be more appealing. Some interesting data in this report.

Finished reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It was incredibly beautiful, poetic and sad. Also very much a recommended read for our times.

In Sweden in 1993, this was a real Sonic promo poster.
In the end, Sega went for less edgy taglines, but the fact that they thought it was a good idea, really has that early 90s Sega quality.

Sadly I’ve met plenty of both investors and publishers who are quite delusional about the resources needed to make games. This usually comes from a lack of experience amongst executives in the industry they’re in, but it’s not uncommon at all.
