Read here why it is high time the EU adopts binding rules to restrict unhealthy food marketing and protect in particular children and teenagers from these practices.

While one in three children in Europe live with overweight or obesity, Europe has relied on weak self-regulation for years that fails to protect children from unhealthy food marketing. Our recent complaints submitted to the initiative confirm this.
The examples are countless: gamified content, partnering with films and games popular with children, cartoons, songs and dance challenges with soft drinks and burgers, sweets handed out to children by mascots, and even a 14-year old kidfluencer DJ-ing in a fast food restaurant..
Out today: @beuc.eu's report on influencer marketing in the food and fast fashion sectors.
Evidence in the food sector shows the massive exposure of children and teenagers to food and drinks high in fat, sugar and salt through influencer marketing 🍔🥤

As the veggie burger debate is back on the table 🍽️🥗:
Consumers are not confused about these terms as long as they are clearly labelled vegetarian or vegan. Read here @beuc.eu's current position 👇https://blog.beuc.eu/veggie-burgers-names-not-confusing/

🏆Consumer WIN!🏆
🍟🤳Denmark announces that it will ban unhealthy food marketing to children under the age of 15.
This comes after tireless campaigning by @beuc.eu 🇩🇰member @forbrugerraadet.bsky.social to better protect children from persuasive unhealthy food marketing including by #influencers
👏👏👏
At #EUAgriVision today the majority of questions from the audience are: where is the food part?🕵🏻♀️ @eesc.bsky.social’s Peter Schmidt points out that we cannot think in silos but that agriculture *is* part of the #foodsystem 🌱🌍
The #EUAgriVision lacks food on its menu 🍴
Agriculture is a cornerstone of the EU market and should consider the whole supply chain to respond to consumer food needs and demands.
Here is a snippet of what BEUC think policymakers could achieve with a bolder vision 👇
www.beuc.eu/press-releas...
👨🌾🤝🍽️The demand and supply sides of the agri-food system are interdependent. Action is required on both sides to enable an agroecological transition in the EU.
It's time to do away with siloed policymaking leading to policy incoherence and instead to #ThinkFoodSystems!

🌱 strengthen the development and market launch of sustainable alternative proteins
At 🇪🇺 level, 130+ organisations call for an EU Action Plan for Plant-based Foods to strengthen plant-based agri-food chains - from farmers to consumers 👩🌾🛒🥦

Good news for plant-based foods: In the new German coalition agreement, the government pledges to
🌱advocate for a comprehensive and ambitious EU protein strategy, incl. strengthening domestic protein production to reduce imports
At a European Parliament event on healthy diets @beuc.eu’s Romanian member APC highlights that consumer food choices are heavily influenced by pricing and marketing strategies and cites our report on this “illusion of choice” 👉🏼 www.beuc.eu/sites/defaul...
BEUC's @irinapopescu.bsky.social spoke today at #FoodDay2025. She highlighted 👇
Plant-based diets can
1️⃣ improve health
2️⃣ reduce emissions
3️⃣ protect animals
📣 “We need healthier, sustainable food choices to be the easy choice & an EU Action Plan to boost plant-based food’s availability”
It looks like yesterday's call by several EU FPC participants to have food on the agenda was successful!
While the title does not seem quite right, it seems like there will be a session on #FoodEnvironments, #PublicProcurement, #FoodAffordability and improving access to healthy food 👇
#EUAgriVision
‼️Only by taking a #FoodSystems approach to policymaking can the EU harness the power of food systems to benefit people and the planet.

We look forward to joining this event on #EUAgriVision 👇
Food was a blind spot in the Vision… while the EU has a Commissioner for Agriculture *and Food*.
🌿 Ready for change? On Monday, the European Council's #AGRIFISH will discuss the EU Commission's Vision for Agriculture and Food.
@beuc.eu urges Ministers to ensure the EU strengthens the entire plant-based agri-food chain – from farmers to consumers.
The EU Vision for agriculture and food is out today🌱
Progress still needs to be made on healthier and more sustainable diets 🍽 and on sharing transition costs equitably💸. We also urge caution on ‘simplification’ of EU food laws.

Strategic Dialogue: 'Make the healthy and sustainable choice the easy one for consumers'
Vision for Agriculture and Food:
A missed opportunity for @ec.europa.eu to bring the EU closer to citizens by making healthy and sustainable diets more available, affordable and attractive 👇
🐖Our 2024 @beuc.eu survey on consumer attitudes on animal welfare showed that a very strong majority (9 in 10 consumers) want new laws to improve #animalwelfare including a ban on such mutilations 👇

🚨 One week to go! The @ec.europa.eu is about to unveil its Vision for Food & Agriculture. This will shape the coming years—so it must deliver real solutions for farmers, nature & consumers. #GoodFood4EU
What should be in it? 👇
On #WorldPulsesDay, let's re-share the call by 130+ organisations, including @beuc.bsky.social, urging @ec.europa.eu to follow Denmark's lead and develop an EU Action Plan for #PlantBased Foods 👇

''We need to make the healthier choice the easier one''
Great intervention from @emmacalvert.bsky.social (@beuc.bsky.social) who stressed the importance of addressing #animalwelfare labelling in legislation.
