25.09.2025 20:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Happy birthday to Bilbo and Frodo!
How will you be celebrating their birthday?
I've been reading this for 28 years since I was 8.
It still influenced me and guides me.
The Coventry (UK) Smial will begin their epic read through and discussion of The Lord of the Rings on the 4th of October.
17.09.2025 12:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Would love to go rhere
15.09.2025 11:47 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I wish.
It's too expensive to fly there for me and I'm all out of time off from work π
I'll be online for it though.
The Radcliffe Camera as seen from High Street, silhouetted against a rainy grey sky. Pedestrians with umbrellas in the foreground.
Clarendon Quad with the Old Bodleian to the left, the Clarendon Building to the right and the Sheldonian Theatre in the centre. Pedestrians hurry past in waterproofs with umbrellas held aloft. The pavements are slick with rain and the skies above are a murky grey.
Catte Street in the rain with three friends silhouetted against the Old Bodleian.
The dome of the Radcliffe Camera reflected in a puddle.
'Woke up this morning with
a terrific urge to lie in bed all day
and read. Fought against it for a minute.
Then looked out the window at the rain.
And gave over. Put myself entirely
in the keep of this rainy morning'
excerpt from Rain, by Raymond Carver.
On 15 September 1977: J.R.R. #Tolkien's The Silmarillion was published. Edited by Christopher Tolkien, the book details the entire history of the world before The Hobbit, and goes into the legends that underpin the entire mythology including the creation of the world. #BookSky

So, THIS IS AN AD, even if UNPAID π€©
I wrote the script on this one and @indeepgeek.bsky.social did the editing - so you can have an infotaining look at ORTHANC.

You are a legend!
And now I'm really intrigued
I've got all those π
12.09.2025 06:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's one of my favorite stories and I think the film did an amazing job of adapting it.
The anime style suited it really well and other than a few story choices I didn't like it was excellent
Why?
11.09.2025 11:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've got to improve my blue sky feed.
Anyone got one of those packs of Tolkien accounts to follow things?
I'm sorry I never got to speak with you properly but hope you'll be back.
09.09.2025 13:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Happy Birthday to the brilliant Martin Freeman!
Perfectly cast as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit trilogy, the actor turns 54 today!
Mines off now too for similar reasons.
Need to work out where I'm going to put it on my Tolkien shelves
It was lovely to meet you!
I hope you had a lovely time, and I hope you can come back again
You were missed my friend.
But I'm very glad you've had a great birthday
Me! Me!
08.09.2025 11:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fighting the post Oxonmoot blues, back to work doesn't feel right.
Need to keep myself (better) immersed in Tolkien as I've lost my way of late
Oxonmoot is always a highlight but I miss connecting with people
To the organisers to everyone who did a presentation, Thank you
I might have taken a tiny step into stewarding this year but it was barely a scratch in comparison to what a lot of those folk do.
But so often it is the people that make an event and this is no exception.
From the regulars who it's always fantastic to see every year.
And there's also those who I've spoken to online and finally get to see in person
And those who over the course of a weekend become new friends.
Oxonmoot is always a wonderful experience. So many very intelligent people talking about different aspects of the works of Tolkien.
I love the range of topics that always are on display and so inspiring.

After a long (impromptu) bluesky hiatus I'm back.
Heading of to Oxford today for my third #oxonmoot hope to see lots of folk there and participate in some wonderful discussions
