Currently watching MLB’s first woman umpire officiating the Marlins vs Atlanta.

Today she’s on the First base side for game one of a double header, Third base for game 2.

Tomorrow she’ll be behind the plate calling balls and strikes.

There’re no onions, I’m straight up crying.

Ancestral Star, by Barn Owl 10 track album

I don't remember where I found this, but here's some excellent dark desert instrumental guitar music. I've been working to it this afternoon.

Building muscle memory for accessibility Just as musicians develop muscle memory through hours of practicing rudimentary techniques until complex mechanics become second nature, we have to build own muscle memory with assistive technologies ...

I wrote a post about playing drums, building muscle memory, and how that relates to centering accessibility in every product decision as something we do instinctively.

Habitica works as my "just look here" tool for tasks and routines. on my worst days, i still do my routines because of this tool. having it not be able to automatically have tasks added (managed in Trello and google calendar) introduces a lot more friction into my day.

bummer. my HabiticaRPG integration in Zapier stopped working. that puts a real damper on my workflow.

going to see if i can get a manual setup working with IFTTT, since i have a paid subscription there.

It’s late in the game, but I’m falling back in love with spreadsheets. They’re the lowest friction way I’ve found for tracking things (wishlists, inventories, etc).

What’s your favorite vaguely practical use of a spreadsheet? (besides those folks that make excel paintings and stuff)

selfcare.tech A repository of self-care resources for developers & others

Gave selfcare.tech a bit of a facelift. I still need to go through all the links, rewrite the copy, etc.

It's now running on the Astro framework (yay!) with Tailwind CSS and a Github Action for deployment. It's all modern and shit now.

I'm gonna do a dark mode at some point too. 🌚

in a "take that" to the spotify algorithm, i took my Discogs collection (~700 albums), created a playlist of from each and hit random.

if that doesn't free me from the algorithm, nothing will.

that was physical CDs, next up i'll figure out a way to do the same thing with my itunes library.

That's fine. I totally wanted to spend the last 45 minutes figuring out how to get the 'h' key working on my keyboard again. That was definitely how I wanted to spend part of my Saturday.

(Kinesis Gaming split RGB keyboard, btw. A factory reset fixed it.)

For those of you who don't know, my last gig was working in federal gov consulting. In particular, I worked on the IRS's Direct File program, serving 32 million Americans.

THEY OPENSOURCED THE CODEBASE!!! github.com/IRS-Public/d... 🎉

I can now openly talk about the work I did on the code. Yay!

Here's an entire giant list of trans books that you should buy at full price during Pride Month. More than that, if the option to tip the authors exists, you should give them more.

is it important to learn something from this process or to just get it done?

Leaders forcing the use of AI to "accelerate" need to
- figure out what real use cases look like
- establish timelines and guidance
- give support & training to everyone on how to use the tools

Force won't work, you have to bring them along. People have valid fears, you need to be gentle.

Even when job transitions are positive (both in and out the door) they're still stressful.

I'm making so many playlists and reading so many YA and romance books.

Oh no. It's that urge to overhaul my Obsidian setup creeping in again.

I do seriously need to clean up my vaults. My notes are not doing what I want them to do for me. Searching for things is painful. Stuff isn't tagged.

Mostly, there's a lot of stuff in here I go: wtf did I save all this?

Watched "Damsel" on Netflix last night. It was better than I anticipated. I didn't get horribly pulled out of the story by anything unrealistic (minor quibbles, but nothing awful) and the dragon was compelling on her own.
