I had to read some of it twice, and it still reads like bad joke, only it’s not.

It is. Mom sent me a picture from the class and it broke my heart. A group of elderly citizens, some in their 80s, some born into Soviet occupation right after WWII, some (mom included) in labor camps in Siberia, learning how to pack for war..

Called my parents in Lithuania about the dates of a potential visit. Dad texts me saying they are in class. A few hours later we confirm the trip and I ask him what class it was. “One where they tell you how to prepare your backpack for emergency.” Yes, emergency=war, in case of doubts. They are 70.

La Esquinita en la calle de los Milaneses cerca de Plaza Mayor. Tiene terraza y desayunos y precios a la antigua. Pero me temo que no se me ocurren muchos más…

Por el centro de Madrid hoy vuelvo a ver algunos, aunque ayer ni por la mañana ni por la tarde se veían en este mismo lugar! Son muchos menos, pero parece que aún quedan.

Justo estuve hablando con mi padre en Lituania y allí siguen aún. Tengo curiosidad por ver cuánto más tardarán en irse.
