Internalized knowledge recedes in the background. When you meet a total beginner you look at them and you go "wow, it wouldn't even have occurred to me to make that mistake" But in fact it's because you had positive knowledge

So I see a lot of people getting sad at the fact that they feel like they can't recall anything from their education. But I think it's just a quirk of memory that it's too hard to access the information in a vacuum AND that knowledge earned feels like "nothing" until you meet a total beginner

I think the "mind goes blank" phenomenon is due to how memory works. If you show someone a lot of pictures, they'll be pretty bad at reporting what they have seen. But if you show them those pictures again next to new ones, they'll be able to tell the difference. They do "remember" in some way.

An empty world, with nothing good in it except songs, would be worth living in. So how much more glorious is it that in this world we get songs AND jokes AND animals AND stars AND movies AND etc... And that's a big "etc"! It's like a trickster god is trying to thoroughly embarrass us with riches.

You remind me of a moment after an extended jhāna absorption, sitting on a couch. As I was coming out of it, I slid off the couch, onto the floor, and sat there for a while ... shaking my head in wonder and gratitude for what I'd just experienced.

Now I'm overthinking the example because of the distinction between equanimity that comes from singleness vs. equanimity that comes from multiplicity. But that wasn't my point... My point was that it's freakin WEIRD.

The jhanas make me feel like a character in a Borges story. Like the mediocre man and mediocre poet who just happens to have a small place in his cellar from which you can see everything in the universe from every angle simultaneously.

To try as hard as you can, and to still not get what you want, that still sounds like a sweet life to me.

Yes, same, maybe I've missed something but I feel like the Critical Role channel went straight to making tutorial videos about how to play it, without telling us "the point of it", what it's supposed to feel like. I'm having fun with DND 5e still, it's not enough for me to see "DND alternative!"

I haven't tried Daggerheart. Have you? I don't have the impetus to try because I've never heard a "pitch" of what the gameplay is going for. Unlike MCDM's Draw Steel: i want to try it because of the tagline "Tactical Heroic Cinematic Fantasy". Do you know of any pitch or tagline for Daggerheart :) ?

I dropped out of C3, partly due to not being interested in the "Critical Role cinematic universe" feel that it had (not saying it's bad). I love Brennan as philosophy-flavoured GM. I genuinely do not know how to react to that news and CR4 being set in a new world. Maybe they'll get me back :)

So much of the awe that struck me as a child is still available to me. Yesterday I saw a damselfly in my garden and I knelt down to get a closer look at the beauty of its tiny wings. When it moves it seems to hover silently, to drift almost invisibly. So wonderful.
