Shootouts are crap and have no place in hockey games of any significance

Presumably all the nice amenities rolled out for VIPs in the new billion dollar domed stadia and the prospect of a junket to somewhere warm and fun. Meanwhile most fans actually enjoy the occasional weather game…

fred shuttlesworth looking over the wreckage of his bombed house

i think about this picture of fred shuttlesworth looking at his bombed out house every day because it is in my classroom and so i see it five times a week. tired and defiant.

so you should just know, if Indiana can win a national title, there's no reason for you to not have hope about...well, everything and anything

That’s fair. Esp since it was also a different era in college hockey when ND first rose up. I think the sport went from 1993 to 2011 (iirc) without having a first time champ. Ever since then it’s been a parity rollercoaster.

The real equivalent would have to be in women’s hockey. Would be genuinely stunning to see a new champion get over the hump any time soon. Frankly regardless of conference or size of program.

Yeah seeing this kind of program rise up and win in football specifically is probably the most shocking of all the revenue sports even loosely defined.

Union, Yale. QU would have been surprising if you told someone ten years ago.

Additionally there’s literally nobody who it would surprise me if they would make a Frozen Four. Can Bentley make it? Sure, why not. I could see it happening. RIT did.

The real answer is there is no equivalent. UMass sort of is historically, but there’s been a whole run of schools winning who nobody ever thought would. The level of parity in men‘s D1 is remarkable. The only thing that would really shock me is an Atlantic Hockey team winning.

It’s pretty similar in terms of historical unlikelihood esp with how rare it is for anyone to ever become a first time national champ in college football. Only thing that made Leicester more wild is it was kind of a one year wonder, Indiana was good for two years. Incredible though.

A&M may have gone 7-1 in the SEC but could they have faced the rigors of an ACC schedule? My column:
