They were that bad before VAR though, there’s very few world class officials. At the end of the day they failed yesterday not VAR - two of them may argue one particular assistant mired their own performance.

Elland Rd is much much easier to extend, it’s got space all around it - so probably not as difficult a decision. Still a shame we’ve not been afforded any sort of insight in to our plans.

I’m not sure what angle you’re viewing but in TV coverage they showed the ball clearly hitting his outstretched arm, you can see it’s past his body. It’s a pen.

His arm was fully outstretched and in the box so it’s a pen, not sure why there’s even debate on that.

That’s my point - if Isak stays Elanga make far more sense, the moment he goes and big Nick comes in couple with Wissa injury he seems a signing for the previous cycle. The error was not addressed, aka selling, Isak first.

Europe is not out of the question in my opinion, CL has gone but the other competitions are within reach.

However, maybe some of should/could go regardless, certainly Botman who is just too injury prone to function. Tino if Man City make their move would seem difficult to stop.

TBF to Howe the recruitment department was a mess, in that situation I get why he focussed on ‘like for like’ players. But the moment they signed big Nick and Wissa was out the approach fell apart - needing transition in real time and it’s been painful. I suspect one or two will never work out.

I certainly don’t think he should go now. We’re days before a transfer window that could potentially reshape the squad. I know it’s been bad but a decent finish is possible if they can turn it around. Appreciate that seems a big if in this moment. The next 4 PL games are huge, he needs 10-12pts.

I think the something new point is key, there hasn’t been any new ideas for sometime, it feels formulaic, even the subs were ‘like for like’ tonight, and nothing changed. I’m not Howe out but I think he has to adapt very quickly if he’s to survive, feels like the cracks are widening.

He deserves time. That doesn’t mean there aren’t questions to answer, I was quite surprised to see largely the same line up and approach as West Ham. Hope this is the rock bottom moment - he needs players available, especially Wissa and Hall

I don’t disagree - anyone watching could see the defeat coming as they targeted Burn.

What made the decision not to replace Burn baffling for me was that he brought Hall on as soon as Burn was sent off - so he was available.

IMO not making the change was the biggest immediate risk.

There’s a risk to playing Hall to early in the game today, but what Howe didn’t seem to see is that there was a clear and evident risk in playing Hall too late - which is what he did. They targeted Burn relentlessly in the second half and doing nothing made it tactically too easy for them.

Yeah I was quite shocked to hear it, but everyone around me started to clap in response and I thought over powered the boo’s - which gives you hope.

It’s a tough comparison for me, we’re just not the same side up front and needs time to settle. They were the much better side I thought.

I think Arteta might have got the better of Howe for once, very dominant in midfield - probably our poorest midfield performance in years against a big side.

Did you really think Bruno was an 8? I thought he had quite a poor game, loosing the ball frequently and miss placing a lot of passes. I thought Tonali looked a step above the rest of the midfield.

This article seems unduly bleak to me.

I didn’t think it was harsh TBH - clear contact, didn’t seem in control so probably reckless and it was off the ball, or long after the ball anyway.

If he refused into the league season he would land himself quite the legal bill. I think realistically his behaviour has pissed people in the squad beyond Howe and he k owes he can’t heal the wounds on his behalf.
