For the Ford government, the cruelty is the point.

(Closing the supervised consumption site in my community has made things so much worse.)

Great list! The Yellow House is probably my favourite game of the last 5 years so I'm always hyped to see Geonil get recognized for that design! And I just picked up High Tide and has my first play, it's brilliant.

For what it's worth, one of my first instincts when I play a game that blows me away on first impression is to check whether you have written about it so I can dig in deeper. I think you succeed well at both aims.

(and sorry if this is weird - jumping into the deep replies of a thread like this.)

If you like very interactive head to head type abstract games, I can't recommend it enough!

A photo of the board game Dewan in play. A player board with scoring opportunities & tucked cards is nearest the camera, and further back you see a map with hexagonal terrain spots occupied by little wooden tents. A picture of the board game Ape Town. A large grey, white and black board is shown with a map full of hexagonal spaces separated into several districts. This is surrounded by a track that holds the tiles you draft to place out onto the board. The tiles depict bananas, lemurs and apes.

Of the new ones? Ape Town & Dewan stood out as particularly great ones. Ape Town is a unique area majority game with a zany theme. Dewan feels like an instant classic - approachable, gorgeous art.

Patchwork, The Yellow House, & Tigris & Euphrates are some of my all time faves I played this month.

It's fantastic! So elegant, with so much depth. It's one of my favourites.

Have you tried Patterns? It's in the same line of games from the same designers. It uses the Mandala scoring mechanism but in this really unique abstract game. It's super cool.

If board gamey people come across this post, please let me know any tips you have on joining in on board game community here. I recently deleted my board game Instagram account because it wasn't super my vibe. I'm hoping this will be a better fit :)

It's discouraging to see our governments at all levels abandoning the evidence based practices (e.g. safe consumption sites) that help keep drug users and communities safe in favour of these sorts of initiatives that are at best useless and at worst dehumanizing to a vulnerable population.

With the level of disappointment merited given their abhorrent behaviour, I would hope. We can and should expect better from men who are upheld as role models in our community.
