To my point, once we start seeing an OS that isn’t windows being preloaded on retail gaming PCs that aren’t handhelds, we’ll be there. It’s kinda nuts that we’ve gone this long with windows STILL being a default, but I think each gen release carries more negative sentiment so that’s shifting

I think my point is more that I want to see a gaming OS be a mainstream default, and I think SteamOS is the most realistic possibility of that happening, whatever the final product will be. To be more clear, I want windows for gamers that isn’t windows lol

and while I appreciate that things were (usually) still possible or had alternatives, it made things juuuuust annoying enough for my set up, that Windows' nonsense was the preferable nonsense for now. I want to boot up an OS and have everything work ootb to the same degree as Windows lol

I think more specifically, a mainstream mass-produced GamerOS would also force the hand of devs to make native apps (and games, though this is less of an issue now). My biggest issue with my attempt to change to Linux earlier in the year is just too much stuff didn't work or required a workaround -

Valve need to normalize SteamOS for desktop, huge push to have it preloaded on gaming PCs, and we're fuckin there baby. Until then, I think Linux is just too finnicky for the average person.
