As few as 5% of voters could defeat initiative petitions under Missouri GOP legislation • Missouri Independent A Missouri House committee passed a proposal Thursday to place restrictions on the initiative petition process.

Proud to stand with workers this weekend against the Republican efforts to overturn earned sick leave benefits. Proposition A passed with 57% of the vote in November, but Republicans are doing everything they can to strip away those benefits and overturn the will of the people. Stand up, fight back!

As we enter hour nine, Senate Democrats continue to hold the floor to protect the minimum wage and restore earned sick leave for working families.

The GOP's HB567 would undermine the 57% of Missouri voters who passed Prop A in a landslide. That's why Dems are fighting back!

We had a full house in Liberty today for the @claycountydems.bsky.social annual Winterfest Celebration! I had the honor of presenting the True Blue award to my friend Shirley Mata. It was great to see so many people fired up and ready to make some change in Missouri.

Missouri House votes on party lines to eliminate income tax on capital gains • Missouri Independent A bill to remove the income tax on profits from the sale of long-term investments passed the Missouri House on an almost pure party-line vote.

The vast majority of capital gains taxes in this country are paid by the top 1%. By making this one of their first priorities, the Missouri GOP are making it very clear that they’re more interested in cutting taxes for the wealthy than they are in making life more affordable for working families. 

Trump signs order imposing tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China American importers will pay a new 25-percent tax on goods from Canada and Mexico and a 10-percent levy on products from China.

Not even two weeks in office and Trump is already making life more expensive for working families:

“For the typical American household, the tariffs will mean a loss of about $1,200 in purchasing power, according to the Budget Lab at Yale University, a nonpartisan research center.”

The Governor of Virginia is among those watching today’s ceremony on TV from an overflow room while Trump’s billionaire donors are welcomed into the Capitol Rotunda for the inauguration

It’s way too on the nose that the inauguration of this “populist” president will include him surrounded by a $Trillion+ of net worth while his regular supporters aren’t allowed anywhere near. This is the American oligarchy, and they are being very clear about who is in charge.

It’s both funny and sad how obviously shallow Trump is with picks like these. If he doesn’t believe you could convincingly play the part in a movie, you don’t get the job.

Weird, but I remember that being a data issue last time around too. Was just curious to see how some of the districts have shifted (or not) as a whole since 2020.
