Germany, how dare you?! Today, the German parliament passed the restrictive #CEAS asylum reform into national law – the most severe attack on the individual right to asylum in decades. Our history, in particular, should teach us to grant protection rather than undermine it. 1/4

In January, the trial of 2 Coast Guard and 4 Guardia di Finanza officers began, charged with negligent shipwreck and multiple manslaughter counts. New findings show senior authorities knew about the boat before it sank. We joined the criminal trial as a civil party. 2/2

“A death that could have been avoided. A death caused by negligence and indifference. At least apologise.” Farzaneh Maliki, an Afghan woman who lost two uncles and three cousins in the Cutro shipwreck.

⚫ Today marks 3 years since one of the deadliest shipwrecks in Italy’s recent history — justice is STILL pending.

On 26 February 2023, the boat Summer Love broke apart off the coast of Cutro, Italy. At least 94 people died, including 35 children: a preventable tragedy. 1/2

„Ein Tod, der hätte vermieden werden können. Ein Tod, verursacht durch Nachlässigkeit und Gleichgültigkeit. Mindestens eine Entschuldigung wäre angebracht.” Farzaneh Maliki, eine afghanische Frau, die zwei Onkel und drei Cousins beim Schiffbruch von Cutro verloren hat.

One week ago, the Civil Court in Catania lifted the official ban preventing the Sea-Watch 5 from leaving port. In line with the principles of the Justice Fleet, the crew had refused to inform Libyan militias about their ongoing rescue operation – the rescue ship was then unlawfully detained. 2/3

Sea-Watch was the first win – and the second is hopefully about to follow: One of the two recently detained ships of the #JusticeFleet is already free again.

We have filed a fast-track appeal: The detention of our rescue ship Humanity 1 must also be lifted immediately! 1/3

Vor 1 Woche hat das Zivilgericht in Catania das Ausfahrtverbot gegen die Sea-Watch 5 aufgehoben. Das Schiff war festgesetzt worden, weil die Crew sich im Sinne der Justice Fleet geweigert hatte, libysche Milizen über einen laufenden Rettungseinsatz zu informieren. 2/3

Sea-Watch war der erste Streich – und der zweite folgt hoffentlich zugleich: 1 von 2 zuletzt festgesetzten Schiffen der #JusticeFleet ist bereits wieder frei!
