I think there’s still prior questions.

“What, exactly, is command?”

And “why does war demand it?”

Luckily this is what I’m working on for my diss.

From the article: “Stop clinging to the silence,” she says. “Stop clinging to a false narrative and say, ‘OK, this, what we claim as history, could be true – but you were there with us, the black people were there too. So let’s add the black history in there, and be brave enough to hear it.’"

Delighted to get my hands on a physical copy of @jakedyble.bsky.social's "Managing Maritime Risk in Early Modern Europe"! This is an indispensable read for historians of the early modern maritime economy – the nuts and bolts of maritime practices matter so much, as Jake demonstrates

I'm not qualified to write it, but I would love to read / watch an examination of morality & lawfulness in RPG protagonists across different cultures.

Many American RPGs tend to make "good" feel like being a cop, it's weird...

When you wear denim jeans with a denim jacket, you create a very unique look. Sometimes you can even include a denim shirt.
This look is known as The Canadian Tuxedo....but why?
It all began in the 1950s in Vancouver. This is the story.

I could not agree more!

I wish I had known about the liberal arts as I pursued my degrees in biology. A liberal arts education generates well-rounded, creative, and knowledgeable scientists (and doctors, politicians, etc). It's also why I love my job: I learn so much from my colleagues & students.

A photo taken through the window of a train. The name of the station "Newton for Hyde" can be seen on a sign. Inside the train a piece of paper is held up to the window with a sketch of a bewigged gentleman holding up a sign saying "Leibnitz for Jekyll"

Nerdy joke warning. 😁 I've been planning this since I first saw the Newton for Hyde sign.

Harewood House reveals portrait of unique Jane Austen character Sanditon's Miss Lambe is the only Austen character 'explicitly of African descent'.

Thrilled that the story of Lela Harris’s stunning portrait of Miss Lambe from #Sanditon has made it to the BBC news. You can read more about her incredible work and how my research on the Lady’s Magazine, fashion plates and Austen intersect with it here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The Clothworkers’ team is cataloguing beautiful new pieces like this Palestinian thobe Malaka (royal dress) from Bethlehem. It features Tahriri, a couching technique that is unique to the region. The design is called kuwwar meaning ‘flowerpot’, thought to be a variation of the tree of life motif.

Tom Lehrer made all of his music 100% public domain so if seeing people sad about his death makes you want to check them out… it’s free. he wanted you to share them.

in one of my favorite books of all time - JUNO & JULIET, an Irish romcom by Julian Gough - one character explains to another that constantly pretending to be an asshole as a joke is meaningfully indistinguishable from actually being an asshole, and I've thought about that every day for 24 years

While everybody hates the 'let's define our terms' part of discourse I am really really grateful for having been trained to expect it as it's extremely useful for figuring out when a challenging counterpoint is being raised vs. an argument based on a different understanding of a word, like 'cooking'

surely there must be some good examples out there of utopian academic conference organizing.

i mean ‘what would a genuinely utopian conference look like?’ not ‘conferences about utopianism’.

hmu with your manifestos etc
