Welcome to Denver #aerassr #aera2025! Our SIG starts off the conference with some great sessions tomorrow (Weds!), including two amazing roundtables & an all-star symposium titled "Critical Inquiry in Social Studies Education: Clarifying Directions for Research and Practice." See below for details!

The second Outstanding Contribution Award goes to @anne-lise.bsky.social of Michigan State Univ. An "exemplary mentor," Dr. Halvorsen's research on elementary social studies, civic education, & project-based learning "has left an indelible mark on both the academic & professional communities" 5/5.

The first Outstanding Contribution Awards goes to J.B. Mayo, Jr. of The Univ of Minnesota. Nominators laud Dr. Mayo as a "foundational scholar" who is a beloved mentor and community-builder. His critical research has "transformed our understanding" of LGBTQ+ students’ & teachers’ experiences. 4/5

The Early Career Award goes to @drhawkman.bsky.social of Rowan University. In addition to the breadth, depth, & far-reaching impact of her scholarship, Dr. Hawkman "cares deeply about justice, truth-telling, and community... & goes outside the walls of the academy to live what she writes about." 2/5

The Outstanding Paper Award goes to @lightningjay.bsky.social, @abbyreisman.bsky.social, Timothy Patterson, @wendychanw.bsky.social, and Jenni Conrad for their paper "The Social Studies Discourse Instrument: Validating an Observation Tool for Classroom Discussion." 2/5
