Seems to me an increasing amount of bad history is based on the idea that you can just keyword search terms (esp. 21st c. terms) to locate origins & relative usage. It's totally unimaginable to these keyword searchers why folks in the past would use diff terms or not mention common practice at all.
It's ironic (???) that an institution dedicated to children's health is hellbent on building a 1,000-car garage in environmentally distressed Grays Ferry, but don't let them! Sign the @5thsq.org petition and tell @childrensphila.bsky.social this is a bad proposal. www.5thsq.org/chop_petition
Dammit, Katy, how are you even cooler than I initially thought.
I like to think that, when Odysseus got home, Penelope was like, ‘While you were off coming up with deadly pranks to play on your enemies I was single-handedly ruling a kingdom, parenting our child, and fending off horny suitors with nothing but a loom and my wits.’
This is not what I mean when I champion preservation and access. apnews.com/article/ai-c...
Missed the last one--is there a rubric or are judges making their decisions solely based on vibes?
The groupchat is debating whether these are too pretty to eat or not. I'm thinking if someone makes these for a @pacscl.org cookie contest, the competition is in trouble.
I procrastinated on doing my homework for @pacscl.org's Conversations on Implementing your Harmful Language Audit event today, but it did prompt me to watch last October's excellent "What We're Learning" talk
As I try to catalog works by Homer published in Amsterdam in 1707, I'm reminded that some good, smart eggs from @swarthmorecollege.bsky.social hung out with my boss and wrote about it in the Undergraduate Classics Journal
It seems like Library Company isn't on Bluesky (yet), but I got their latest newsletter and was like, hey, I know that guy (because he once owned Michael Gratz's almanac, which is here.)

My book artist colleague has taught me some new insider terminology (wayzgoose? jeffing quads???) and all I can conclude is that...printers are kinda weird, said the librarian in her glass house.
Luddites weren't anti-tech.
They were against technology being used by the capitalist class to capture wealth at the expense of the worker.
I am a Luddite, and a tech enthusiast. They're not in opposition. I want technology that makes MY life better, not that sells my life piecemeal to corps.
Fellow (gender expansive) workaholics (used to be complimentary, now pejorative) who need help learning to value themselves for themselves, rather than for their productivity, may I recommend Bad Worker zine by Violet and Geraldine? www.etsy.com/listing/1581...
My recurring nightmare used to be losing teeth (I get the symbolism, it would just tap into some fun personal trauma.)
Now it's finding out I didn't finish my BA properly and I'm a total fraud who a) can't afford a re-do or b) pass my math requirement.
Thanks, subconscious.
Was reminded of this song that I love, but haven't listened to in awhile. I don't know, the ba-ba, ba-ba-ba (ba)s just really hit. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9k6I...
Fuuuuu

a) hope I agree with my cataloging choices in a few weeks
b) spent ten minutes trying to figure out how to make this link pretty in BlueSky like I have seen others do and then gave up.
I thought it would be take me a half hour at most to shelve a newly processed and cataloged acquisition yesterday (the Lippincott) and let colleagues know I had Done A Thing. Joke's on me, nothing's ever that easy.
“This campus was literally built on the backs of Black men and women, and that labor has been unrecognized as it always is. It was unrecognized and uncelebrated until Black students wanted to take on the responsibility of bringing their contributions to light.” — artist Nekisha Durrett
I don't meditate (chronic overthinker with anxiety, which I guess makes me an excellent candidate for taking up the practice) but when I'm spiralling, I try to think of how I felt last week watching Joe Wright's Pride and Prejudice (2005) in theaters.
"Overdue items" this and "overdue items" that. Let's talk about what THE LIBRARY owes ME
lol kinda wish @rebeccaromney.com hadn't informed me of the existence of Macmillan's Cranford series because I am NOT a collector (respect for those who are! call me if you want it cataloged!) but I definitely felt a twinge of covetousness when I saw these beautifulbooks.info/vintage-cran...
Had a lovely busman's holiday at this fantastic talk last night at @freelibrary.bsky.social
I don't know if I am experiencing the correct order for the 5 stages of grieving, but I'm definitely at anger about losing our federal grants, so to cope and hopefully dump on my IRLs less, decided to join LibrarianSky. Is that what it's called?
