You’re Fired. Just Kidding! How much more whiplash can the CDC withstand?

former CDC official Dr. Houry: "I first learned that the secretary had changed our CDC covid vaccine guidance on an X social media post. CDC scientists have still not seen the scientific data or justification for this change. That is not gold standard science."

Dr. Susan Monarez: “I could have stayed silent, agreed to the demands, and no one would have known. What the public would have seen were scientists dismissed without cause and vaccine protections quietly eroded…I would have lost the one thing that cannot be replaced: My integrity.”

Opinion | We Ran the C.D.C.: Kennedy Is Endangering Every American’s Health

I joined eight former CDC directors—spanning Republican and Democratic administrations—to share this warning: our nation’s health is at risk.

The very systems that protect us from disease, cancer, and future health threats are being dismantled.

1/ A few weeks ago, I got an unexpected invitation: a local Make America Healthy Again ( #MAHA) chapter wanted to meet—with me and four public health leaders I deeply respect.

My first reaction? No. I was angry. Heartbroken. Skeptical.

But I said yes. And, surprisingly, I’m glad I did. 🧵

“Putting Americans at Risk:” Fmr. CDC Dir. on RFK Jr.’s Public Health Cuts The US is facing one of its worst measles outbreaks in decades, which last week claimed the life of a second child. This comes as the Trump admin. slashes thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in ...

About two-thirds of CDC’s budget goes to state and local health departments. Cuts to this funding and expertise are cuts to communities—and they put Americans at risk.

Former CDC Director Tom Frieden: Cuts to the agency will cost American lives and dollars The Office on Smoking and Health, the Environmental Health Laboratory, CDC Communications offices — the gutting of these teams will make America sicker, writes former CDC Director Tom Frieden.

These cuts are a recipe for more illness, higher healthcare costs, and less information for people to make decisions about their own health.

They're a recipe for disaster.

CDC cuts expected to devastate Epidemic Intelligence Service, a ‘crown jewel’ of public health Members of the CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service were warned Friday that many of them were about to be fired

Make no mistake. This is an all-out attack on health in America.

Not only is the EIS vital to controlling infectious disease; it was where a remarkably high fraction of our public health leaders received formative training and experience.

So proud of my friend who ran into Ted Cruz on her flight back and took the opportunity to confront him on the current block of comms from HHS agencies and canceling NIH study sections! Senator Cruz did speak to her and affirmed support to cancer research. She urged him to support ALL science.

During a team building exercise last month, I had to read out to everyone “Chapell Roan” and said “Chapel” not “shapell” and immediately felt old!
