The "______ is NOT a Christmas movie!" people baffle me. I get that some people take great comfort in rigid definitions that cannot be questioned but the real meaning of the holiday season is for people to decompress after the stress of another year by enjoying the traditions that bring them warmth and comfort. So, if they watch their favourite movie every Christmas, it's a Christmas movie to them. Regardless of what it's about or whether or not it has anything to do with the holiday at all. (And if it DOES feature elements of that holiday and you're still telling them they're wrong, then you really do have a serious problem you should talk to someone about.) To tell them, "NO! THAT IS NOT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE BECAUSE ______________" isn't defending Christmas. It's the exact opposite. It's trying to lessen someone else's enjoyment of the holiday because it doesn't match up with your own. And that's far more Scrooge than Santa.
