Understanding - and defeating - attacks on education means hard conversations in our unions about what occurs beyond our borders: futureschools.substack.com/p/this-momen...
I haven't read it yet so I'm publicizing it to enlarge the conversation. IMO at the very least it shows the growing resistance to AI, being led by higher ed faculty: www.peterlang.com/document/146...
Another way the "centrist" Dems and liberal groups that should know better are pushing AI in classrooms as fast they can. Have @neatoday.bsky.social members approved participation with neoliberal think tanks? www.alicoalition.org/coalition-me...
Not the lives lost. The money. Let's sit with that too.
Just read about another new book taking on the tech moguls and AI in education. Parents and higher ed faculty seem to be leading but knowledge of the danger - and resistance - is starting to spread among preK - 12 educators. Wish more knew about our unions abetting the damage.
I'm here for the growing caregiver resistance to educational technology. And while I disagree with how some caregivers construct their arguments about when, why, and how to use tech in school, I hope we can agree that Meta are a bunch of ghouls and teen accounts aren't the answer. #PairedTexts
The 3Gs of the GOP are the new ABCs of political life: Grifters, Groypers, Groomers. New article by @masspolprofmo.bsky.social nails what's sordid and dangerous about Trump's regime: open.substack.com/pub/mauricec...
Why assume they believe their lies, rather than seeing it as a performance?
A vital fight that will help workers in all sectors, including @aeufederal.bsky.social, representing 198,000 education workers. Solidarity!
We all have a stake in workers in the private sector being organized into democratic unions that see their members' interests as inseparable from social justice, the common good.
Tiny, very noisy demo of Trump and Israel supporters, expressing love for the Shah, marching on lower Fifth Avenue. Completely ignored, except by the many police protecting the right of free speech Israel denies to Palestinians and Trump tries to suppress here.
Interested to learn your thoughts, informed by research and/or recent experience, for a monograph about explaining ideals of social justice teacher unionism to ed activists who never knew schools or teaching without the neoliberal reforms, testing especially. Replies and DMs work. Thanks!
Shouldn't we say what/who drove those reforms, masked as helping all kids learn and our nation to be more competitive in a changed economy? As today, it was corporate interests aiming for greater profit and control of what kids learned.
About one-third of US voters cast their ballots for Herbert Hoover (and not Roosevelt or any left candidates) at the height of the depression. IMO we cannot expect more than 66% to vote for their class and social interests. Anything we get above that is gravy.
Such vast money being spent by tech moguls to persuade us AI can "personalize" learning! Make teaching easier, learning more engaging! Solve every social problem! Still, resistance is growing and the question is how fast we can scale up to defeat this.
Kudos to @classsizematters.bsky.social for organizing this effort that includes many of @mayor.nyc.gov earliest, strongest supporters.
NYT piece on AI in NYC schools got one thing right: Parents, ed activists are pushing back on tech mogul's control of kids, learning, declining @uft.org "partnership" - but didn't explain why. Reasons in this petition, and if you haven't signed yet, please do: actionnetwork.org/petitions/pl...
Leaks are intended to test the waters or prepare us for what's already been done. In either case this story shows we need a far more powerful presence on the streets, saying "No war in Iran." Who's organizing it?
Explained more fully here by @kenklippenstein.bsky.social : open.substack.com/pub/kenklipp...
True. Also true: Minneapolis exposed the failure of Trump's strategy and Noem looked to cover her ass.
Can we talk about how ordinary people taking to the streets in horror and revulsion at ICE brought her down?
Nope. Organize to defeat them.
Can we talk about the national teachers unions "partnership" with the tech moguls promoting AI?
Four Democrats joined Republicans to block the Khanna–Massie Iran War Powers Resolution — AIPAC contributions the four
Jared Golden: $3,449,465
Henry Cuellar: $3,239,485
Greg Landsman: $1,733,305
Juan Vargas: $949,493
Senior ICE official says he thinks Kristi Noem was fired because of the Minneapolis protests, a sentiment I heard from other DHS officials

It was the mass protests that made Trump fire Noem. We need to keep on and ratchet up to do away with Miller and Hegseth. And Trump.
As usual, @kenklippenstein.bsky.social hits the mark in saying it was "people power" not what went on in the Beltway, as the media want us to believe, that toppled Noem.
No one who would agree to serve in this position should be approved.
Wiping my eyes in disbelief! But on second thought, Schumer will collapse like a lawn chair, probably already told Fetterman it was fine to vote to approve.
