Majority of Brits oppose illegal war on Iran The US’s war on Iran is illegal according to the United Nations Charter and unconstitutional under domestic law, say the US group Veterans for Peace. A war of aggression and of choice, it’s also largely based on lies. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has now admitted as much. Israel’s determination to attack Iran and the certainty that US troops would be targeted in response forced the Trump administration to take pre-emptive strikes, he said. So much for the rhetoric about a “defensive war”. Hours before President Donald Trump began bombing Iran, the…

This policy will cause immense harm, making it harder for refugees to integrate into our communities and find work, as they will be living under constant threat of removal.

Anyone can see how destabilising and deeply counterproductive this decision is. [2/2]

I am appalled that the government has scrapped permanent refugee status for those seeking safety in the UK.

From today, refugees entering the country will face reviews every 30 months and be forced to return if their country is deemed “safe”. [1/2]

The usual pigs in troughs who stood to gain financially from Labour Together ‘donations’ include top cabinet members like Cooper, Lammy, Reeves, Mahmood and lots of other little piggies too!!

Animal welfare in Wales Senedd member Mike Hedges outlines what still needs to be done. How we treat animals is a sign of the type of society we are and want to be. If we allow animals to be mistreated either via ignorance or cruelty, then it reflects badly on us. There is substantial evidence that a wide range of animals are sentient beings. This means they have the capacity to experience positive and negative feelings such as pleasure, joy, pain and distress. Progress has been made in recent years in Wales. We have passed a law on wild animals in circuses, one on banning snares and one making it compulsory for CCTV to be installed in all areas where live animals are unloaded, kept, handled and stunned.

Labour Together: who benefited? Labour Together, the shadowy faction that propelled Keir Starmer to power, is still making the headlines. Its director, Josh Simons resigned from the Government after an investigation by the Prime Minister’s independent adviser on ministerial standards into his role in commissioning a PR agency to examine the background of journalists who had written about £730,000 in undeclared donations the group received. But where did that money then go? Labour Together itself donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to over 100 Labour candidates. Many received a standard £10,000. But some received significantly more, as a report published by…

‘The most bitter news’: Iran reels as more than 100 children reportedly killed in school bombing The building appears to be among many devastated in Trump’s ‘major combat operations’ as long expected attacks arrive

The willingness to pursue military action that leaves hundreds of children dead, underlines why the world increasingly views the actions of Israel and the US as such a threat to international peace and security.

It feels like a few people are beginning to wake up to the true nature of the Labour right.

This is not new. They've always treated migrants, disabled people, unemployed people, as expendable for political ends.

It's not new.

A change of leadership, better policies and Party democracy are now needed Cabinet Office minister Josh Simons has resigned from the Government following revelations about the shadowy Labour Together faction which he led. Long-standing Labour activist Frank Hansen sets out what needs to happen next. Two things are clear from recent events in the Labour Party: Keir Starmer has to resign and we need a more democratic leadership election method. The latter is unlikely to be achievable before the next leadership election, because many in the Parliamentary Labour Party - especially the Cabinet - and the Labour bureaucracy are still in the grip of Labour Together’s programme and culture and certainly won't want to change the rules.

A rebellion of this size means Labour would be relying on Tory and Reform support for Starmer and Mahmood's reactionary policy

In fairness to Lucy Powell she was the only member of the NEC panel to vote against blocking Andy Burnham from standing.

If Starmer genuinely thought the Greens were an extremist threat (utter nonsense) then he wouldn't have blocked Labour's strongest candidate.

Reactions to the Greens’ win in Gorton and Denton We report responses within Labour to the most important byelection in a generation. “The result in Gorton and Denton last night has ripped British politics apart,” reported The Lead. “For years, Reform UK has styled itself as the voice of the ‘silent majority’, the authentic expression of a country gagged by liberal elites.” But Green Party candidate Hannah Spencer “didn’t just edge past Reform, she thrashed them. With 40.7 per cent of the vote and a majority of more than 4,000, the Greens finished 12 points clear of Reform’s Matt Goodwin.

Robin Cook would have turned 80 today

In his memoir, Point of Departure, he says:

“Political parties do not achieve renewal by shuffling staff in their leader’s office, but by changing the culture, priorities, and direction of the organisation”

Lots of wisdom in there that remains pertinent today
