The river bank forms a diagonal from the bottom right corner to midway up the left side. The river flows between that and the far bank, as a smooth waterway partly reflecting the blue March sky above patched with white clouds. Leafless trees grow along the far bank.

#ourworldiswonderful; I leave you this evening with a shot of the River Wye as it flows between England and Wales, carrying water from the Brecon Beacons down to the Severn Estuary at Chepstow.

Fifteen volunteers took on peak Welsh weather and still smashed it. We waded a field‑turned‑pond, cleared fallen trees in the woodland, and restored 50m of right of way plus 2 bags of litter. Barry’s team also cleared a watercourse in town. Next up: Bryngarw Park, 21 March, 10–12. All welcome.

The late Neolithic henge and circle of standing stones known as Bedd Arthur (‘Arthur’s Grave’) in the Preseli Hills, Pembrokeshire. Located close to the source which provided Stonehenge with its bluestones. 📸 My own. #StandingStoneSunday #Prehistory #Pembrokeshire

A long‑hidden view is back! Trailblazers cleared Footpath 29, litter‑picked the Cefn Hirgoed ridge and improved the descent to Penylan Road. Forty‑five kilos of rubbish removed and 80 metres of path reopened. Community‑led action transforming local places and strengthening wellbeing. #Pencoed #Wales

A photo of Dinefwr Castle from the new Tywi Valley cycle path, which will run 13 miles from Carmarthen to Llandeilo through some stunning scenery. Frustratingly the middle section has been delayed, but the end sections look great.

The C13th chapel (with roots reaching back to the C6th) sits cockled onto the rocks of St. Govan's Head, Pembrokeshire in Wales - a beacon of continuity amidst centuries of shifting tides.

Dramatic skies over the wild and stunningly beautiful Cambrian Mountains. Known as the backbone of Wales, these spectacular uplands are home to rare plants, and endangered wildlife. Walk these hills, and you will still hear the curlew's hauntingly beautiful cry.

Waterfall at Pwll y Wrach nature reserve.

Path closures at Pwll y Wrach ⚠️

Several paths will be closed at Pwll y Wrach this week due to tree works so look out for signage if you visit. Parking space will be very limited due to contractor vehicles.

Thanks for your cooperation.

A row of planes, the trees not the aircraft, with a wide path. No leaves yet. A wintery path, muddy browns predominant. The path and trees. Sad bramble, a patch of grass and hints of ivy are the only greens. Can't wait for Spring. A coffee stall under a rail bridge. Masochistic joggers pretend to ignore the coffee and warm pastry smell. More planes, yes trees again, alongside a railway, a path between.
Lots of trees for a city walk.

Two short #SlowWays today Streatham to Balham to Clapham Balstr2 &Clabal1. Essentially a lovely stroll through Tooting Bec and Wandsworth Commons.

Start your year with a small act that makes a big difference.
Trailblazers are out on Sat 17 Jan, 10–12, for a relaxed two‑mile Coity Walia walk with light litter‑picking and a bit of path clearing to help reopen the views from Cefn Hirgoed.

This one is Carreg Cennen, the third major reference. All three are 'native' Welsh castles. These tend to be smaller than the massive, intentionally intimidating English built castles, like Conwy or Caernarfon. But what they lack in size, they more than make up for in scenic beauty!

Keeper's Pond (or Pen-ffordd-goch) - frozen, and with a dusting of snow on top Blorenge summit View towards the Black Mountains - hills all with a light coating of snow Northerly edge of Blorenge - view to Sugar Loaf and the Black Mountains

South Wales was looking spectacular in a light dusting of snow and crystal clear sky today. From Keeper's Pond on Blorenge, a mountain overlooking Abergavenny, there's a lovely 5 mile circular walk around/over the summit. A fabulous day and lovely to be out with at least a little snow under foot. 🥾

Views over Mynydd y Gaer. Views towards the Llynfi, Garw and Ogmore Valleys Views across Coity Wallia common
Mynydd y Gar with the brown top and cloud slightly to the left.

Did the Bridgend circular walk today in glorious sunshine. Hard to imagine the views over Mynydd y Gaer looking very different, but plans for 11 turbines are on the table and part of Coity Wallia Common could be blocked to long‑used access. A reminder of how quickly landscapes and rights can change.

Sort of... It's an application for a modification order where the land is in unknown ownership. It also gets more complex as it straddles two local authorities - Rhondda Cynon Taff and Bridgend County Borough Council!

Footpath surveys in Coychurch Higher today. Finished by walking the disused railway line between Rockwool and Brynna — still inching its way toward bridleway status after an application first made in 2018. A long wait, but progress is finally visible.

Two Pencoed Trailblazers cleared 70 metres on Pencoed Footpath 32 this week and even rediscovered Pencoed Spring by stepping straight into it. Another 30 metres to go, but the route is already taking shape. Community action making a real difference.
