12.11.2025 18:04 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Naturally, I couldn't resist recreating this visualization in @desmos.com. It was a lot of fun chatting with Mike and the other attendees after the session, talking about my go-to Desmos strategies and the pros and cons of different instructional resources.

A wooden board, approximately 1.5x2.5 feet, painted blue with carved tracks in the shape of a circle with concentric rings, and long horizontal lines extending out from the circle rings. The presenter is shown starting to drag a thin metal chain along one of the tracks from the circular ring down to the straight path.
One of the highlights of OCTM this past week was attending Mike Browne's session on "Introducing Students to Calculus" where he shared this delightful visual that he constructed of unwrapping the area of a circle into a triangle. #octmconnects #ohioctm

It was a great way to wrap up the @nctm.org Annual Meeting presenting on Geometry in @desmos.com. Looking forward to sharing again next week back in Ohio at OCTM!
(For those curious, the slide in the picture was not about Geometryโฆwe got off on a tangent looking at some example graphs)

Excited to head to Atlanta next week for the @nctm.org Annual Meeting!
I'll be representing @desmos.com with a session on dynamic geometry software on Saturday. Iโm putting together my agenda of sessions to attend โ any recommendations? #iteachmath
A multi-color star design in the Desmos graphing calculator formed by 4 different triangles, defined in the expression list in the form of `polygon(x1,y1)`.
Oh yea, definitely some different on-ramps depending on where kids are coming into it. Could be converted into smaller bite-size triangles to re-create using rectangular coordinates to start, but you know what would work best for your students. (Updated graph: www.desmos.com/calculator/h...)

Purple star pattern designed in the Desmos graphing calculator by rotating right triangles in 30 degree increments around the origin.
Love this concept, and the 3D printing potential is amazing. Maybe experiment with starting with triangle polygons plotted using different points, but then rotating them into a pattern?

Points form a roughly cylindrical shape where the vertical distance changes the "value", the radius changes the "saturation", and the angle changes the "hue."
When using custom colors in #Desmos (@desmos.bsky.social), RGB felt straight-forward enough, but I didn't have a clear grasp on what each component of HSV did. Turns out that it's much easier to visualize in 3D.
