If I am lucky enough, I still have 30 years of science ahead of me, and I will make sure they are as much enjoyable and enriching as were the past 10 years. I can't wait for the exciting new scientific collaborations to come and for the friendships to be made.

Exactly 10 years ago 🎂, on 27/11/2015, I was defending my PhD "Carbon storage and #soil organic matter dynamics under Mediterranean and temperate #agroforestry systems". Waouh 😲. I can not believe 10 years have gone so fast... Still very grateful to my supervisors.

I just feel honored and humbled that almost 10 years after my PhD defense, the research I contributed to seems to be of interest for the scientific community. Nothing more. We do science not to be on a list, but because we believe this is useful for the society. And it is. #sciencematters

But personally, I believe these different lists mean nothing individually, they just reflect the research environment you evolve in, the level of funding you get, the quality of colleagues and students you work with, etc.

So, I take this opportunity to share something less prestigious 😁 ^^. A few days ago, one of my PhD student informed me I was on the 2% list for 2025, big surprise, I had never heard about this list before 🤣!

Aboveground biomass in Australian tropical forests now a net carbon source - Nature A transition from carbon sink to source for the aboveground woody biomass of moist tropical Australian forests has occurred, driven by increasingly extreme climate anomalies.

Bad news for large natural carbon sinks: "Our findings suggest the potential for a similar response to climate change by woody aboveground biomass in moist tropical forests globally, which could culminate in a long-term switch from carbon sinks to carbon sources."

Good news: carbon intensity has declined

Bad news: carbon emissions increased, due to the rapid rise in world GDP

Also bad news: the chance of staying below 2°C remained low, at 17%

Better news: chance of going above 3°C has gone down substantially, from 26% to 9%
