Wishing a heartfelt Happy Father’s Day to all the father figures who show up every day with love and care. #FathersDay
Harvard filed a suit within 24 hours after the Noem visa-stripping. The judge issued a temporary restraining order less than 2 hrs later.
The legal system CAN work quickly if the plaintiffs are prepared— know the judges and their courtroom rules, have strategy set and filings ready.
This isn’t just a career milestone. It’s deeply personal. I’ve doubted, burned out, and nearly quit. But I kept going. For my kids, my students, myself.
This win is for my lab, my people. Now it’s time to celebrate—we did this!

I got TENURE!!
So much gratitude to those who lifted me up—and even those who made it harder. You all made me better.
To my mentors: thank you for opening doors and walking me to them.
To my mentees: thank you for supporting and understanding me.

“How might the narrative about senior women be challenged or changed in order to respect these women who have achieved enough success to earn promotion? How do we stop this generational cycle so that women's wings aren't clipped as soon as they approach the power to soar.”
Continue the 30-year tradition of unraveling the mysteries of misfolded proteins! 🧬 Join us for a special celebration and submit your abstract by May 3 to present a short talk or poster! Don’t miss your chance to share your insights. @saelicesl.bsky.social

“Bhattacharya has been a vocal critic of the NIH. He gained attention as a co-author and signer of The Great Barrington Declaration”… a wildly incorrect document that would have killed tens of thousands if followed, and NIH scientists correctly told him so.
The crush of new grant cancellations hasn't let up.
If your grant was terminated (or your app was pulled) please use this Google Form👇 to submit details for tracking purposes.
Multiple advocacy efforts are moving forward, but we must must must know more about what grants were cancelled and why.
Circulate this widely! We need to know which NIH grants have been terminated. It goes beyond the list that HHS has released. Send to every scientist you know. @scott-delaney.bsky.social @noamross.net
This is just… gorgeous. Enjoy.
I just realized that this was my first post here… considering how active I used to be on twitter and the positive vibes I had back then… disturbing how things have changed. Let’s start again. Hi all! I am here to engage with & learn from my science buddies, while promoting DEI! & this is my 🌟 team!

You cannot determine whether you saved or cost money based solely on one side of the ledger.
Example: I saved my household $2K by not paying the mortgage.

The glycocalyx, our cells' sugar coat, holds secrets in immunology, cancer, viral infections, and more. Visualizing its molecular architecture was impossible… until now. #glycotime #microscopy

Currently working on an R01. Waiting on 3 NOAs (1 as PI, 2 as co-I). 2 of them planned to study amyloidosis in minority populations (Blacks and Hispanics). No idea what will happen to NIH, the institute, the proposals, my lab, my team, my family... I am just in a wave of anxiety & mental paralysis
It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.
Apologies for this long post I put together to explain to non-scientists the impact of NIH cuts: Last night, an “atomic bomb” was dropped on the biomedical science community. We were informed that effective immediately, indirect costs on NIH grants (both current and future) would be fixed at 15%.
At the NIH, posters of women and scientists of color have been taken down. Shared by @ivancalcantara.bsky.social on X. 2/x
NIH is updating peer review, um, process? Standards? Not sure what I would call it. One stated goal is to reduce reputational bias. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/nih-revises-grant-review-process-improve-focus-scientific-merit-reduce-reputational-bias
“3 institutions are trying to trace the origin of infectious Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease samples discovered in the laboratory of the biochemist, who died in 2022 at the age of 45.”
And it takes 3 years for the institutions to notify the rest of the lab staff… (in Spanish)
