💯 that an accessible scripting language in the browser is a boon. I have many gripes with the type system, e.g. null and undefined which serve the same purpose, but have subtly different semantics, a number type that only represents floating point values. Alas, we’re stuck with it.

My secret hope is that WASM will save us all… write in a language that’s enjoyable for you, the developer, in my case Rust or Python, compile to WASM, and ship where you want to.

What’s super weird to me is that JavaScript has a lot of functional programming features, but the syntax feels like C. And an awful type system. 😱🙀

but the learning curve is so shallow, and it’s hard, maybe impossible beating out the size of the installed base.

The core of the debate, IMO, comes down to aesthetics. But I don’t know if the outcome of the debate matters as much as what happens next. To wit, most people used C instead of Lisp. And today JavaScript is eating the world. JacaScript’s aesthetics, runtime, and user experience are unpleasant IMO…

I don’t know if this is an argument, but the success and proliferation of JavaScript feels like the rise of worse is better playing out all over again. For those who haven’t read it:

It makes me sad when I work on, e.g. architectural decision records or strategy docs or project proposals with people, and they don't know what they want the doc to be because no one's been clear about what the doc needs to accomplish, or that a good doc doesn't mean the author gets what they want.

For Berkeley folks: I’m not sure how far this will reach, but I’m desperate and trying everything. While I was in Japan, my beloved cat Batman snuck out on the cat sitter and hasn’t been seen since Oct 16 (!!!). If anyone has seen him, please let me know! I’m sick with worry.

An opinion I feel should be universal at this point: All indoor public spaces (but especially schools, workplaces, and medical facilities) should be subject to air quality regulations and continuous monitoring and CO2 and particulate concentration numbers should be accessibly displayed.
